Xbox One is horrible when installing games. I installed Gears of War 4 and don't remember the exact time it took but I started at 9:25pm today and at 9:50pm, the install was at 65%. Probably took 45 minutes give or take. Either way, way way way too long.

I haven't downloaded the patch yet. I'll do that in the morning when I get up at 8:00am and ready for work. By the time I leave at 9:30am, it should hopefully be done.
On PS4, installing games is FAST. I mean a few minutes at most. Patches are also usually pretty quick. Using speed test by Ookla, as of this posting, my download speed was 28.94mbps and upload speed was 5.20mbps.
What sometimes takes a little time on PS4 is when you install the game and patches and then start the game to play and it has an install screen. It's not every game but im pretty sure that Mafia III has this and I know Just Cause 3 for sure has it.
For games that don't do this, there's no comparison for me, PS4 installs and downloads patches a lot faster than Xbox One.
As for the game, will hopefully start playing tomorrow evening. My friend who played Gears 1-3 is a few hours into the campaign and outside of the 15 minute prologue, he's enjoyed the game thus far and said the visuals were arguably the best on Xbox One and the weather effects were definitely the best that he has seen in any game this generation.
I played the original Gears of War but the motion made me light headed so I couldn't play them. Only Gears, Batman AA and Batman AC have done this to me. Hoping that Gears 4 doesn't effect me the same way as im looking forward to playing the campaign.Comment

Gears of War 4 (X1)
I should have been clearer. The 45 or so minutes was just to install the game off the disc itself. Nothing else. I'm always off-line when installing games on Xbox One. I found out the hard way when I bought Xbox One back in March 2015 and tried installing Ryse at the time while being online.

A simple yes or no would have been fine. Not interested in the PS4 comparison. I don't have any issues installing. I put a disk in before dinner and it's done when I'm done eating. 20-30 minutes at most. I'm online when I do it and I decline the update.Last edited by ricky24; 10-12-2016, 08:40 AM.Comment

From now on I will decline the update before installing. Did some poking around the web and from what I can tell installing the game and update at the same time causes extremely long install times.Comment

Re: Gears of War 4 (X1)
Play Anywhere feature is great and seamless. Playing Campaign and Horde on PC for 60fps, then switching to Xbox One when I want to play multiplayer with a bigger community. I noticed the menus lag a bit on console and there's this weird pause just as a match begins, which I haven't experienced on PC.
I really like that Dodgeball mode. Had a couple games where I got 15 and 16 kills and a bunch of downs, but I still feel I'm bad at the multiplayer.
...
Digital Foundry: Face-off
On Xbox One, the game presents a full 1080p resolution for most of the experience while using an adaptive pixel count on the horizontal axis in order to counteract GPU spikes. While playing the campaign or engaging with the game's horde mode (both of which operates at 30 frames per second) you can expect to see full 1080p more than 94 per cent of the time. In competitive multiplayer mode, however, the frame-rate is bumped up to 60fps resulting in more noticeable drops in clarity as the action heats up.
Thankfully, this is backed by Unreal Engine 4's best-in-class temporal anti-aliasing solution, which creates a somewhat soft but remarkably clean image that is temporally stable. In addition, the team makes use of composite texture maps for all roughness textures, helping to avoid distant in-surface aliasing as you move down the mip-map chain. Speaking of mip-maps, the Xbox One version uses an adequate level of texture filtering throughout leading to crisp surfaces at oblique angles. In practice, this means we're looking at the cleanest image quality we've seen on Xbox One.Ultimately, there are is a lot to take away from this experience here. On Xbox One, this is one of the most technically accomplished titles yet released for the platform. With impeccable image quality, steady performance, and a whole host of modern visual effects, it's truly one of the best looking games on the console. We're eager to see how this version of the game is transformed for the arrival of Scorpio next year as well.
The PC version impresses even more due in part to the poor track record of UWP ports this year. Gears of War 4 on the PC runs like a dream on a wide variety of platforms and features one of the most robust set of options we've seen as of late. The Xbox Play Anywhere feature also works supremely well making it possible to switch back and forth seamlessly between PC and Xbox One gameplay. The saves carry right over and all of the messaging is clear so you're never left wondering if your progress will be overwritten.
Gears 4 also marks a high point for Epic's Unreal Engine 4, which had yet to be featured in a big budget AAA experience until now. This remarkable engine has played a key role in allowing The Coalition to deliver a beautiful, highly optimised release on a grand scale. There's little doubt that Gears of 4 lives up to its predecessors. While the visuals may not impress quite as much as Gears of War in 2006, which came at a time when graphics techniques were shifting dramatically, it's still remarkably impressive all around.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Gears of War 4 (X1)
How long did it take everyone to download the patch? I started at 8am and when leaving for work at 9:30am, it was only at 70%. I wasn't happy that I had to leave the console and my modem on for while I was at work but on the bright side, when I came home it was thankfully all done.Comment
