Final Fantasy and La Pucelle may have "Tactics" attached to their name, but they don't know the meaning of the word in comparison to Phantom Brave. The back of the game box says "Imagination Knows No Limit", and let me tell you that is the stone truth. I'm only 5 hours in and I can already say that this will be my favorite strategy RPG ever.
The graphics are what they are, I'm sure the story will be great(I like it so far), but the combat is where the game goes to another level. I could type 1000 words and still not adequately cover all the options. So I'll say a few things. The confine system is fresh and exciting and forces you to use strategy for every battle(unless you're one of those "leveling up" fanatics, who destroys the strategy of the game with your godlike characters.)
You can throw weapons to teamates, use trees as weapons, steal enemies' weapons to use against them, throw enemies out of bounds, drop weapons on the ground so that they may be inhabited by you teamates' spirit. You have to deal with rogue characters thowing usable weapons and items out of bounds just to sabotage your strategic efforts. I could go on and on.
If you like these kinds of games at least give it a rental. I think the depth will amaze you.
P.S. Fable is gonna have to bring some serious noise to tear me away from PB
