Does it unlock on the 11th? (Excuse my ignorance regarding digital copies of games. I'm getting too old for this....)

Its actually the first time I have pre-ordered any game since NCAA 2008, so first time I've done a digital pre-order.

Basically, you download and its installed but you can't access it until release date. Pretty cool.

Install was 1.3 gigs I think

So, do I literally have to have amiibo's to use Bowser & Bowser Jr in my courses? Or how do I get them all? Or how do I unlock everything? I have it digitally, but there's only a few items available to use in designing a course.

To use amiibo's in your own courses you do need to have them. Features unlock every 5 minutes you spend in the course maker I believe.

If you don't have the Amiibo, costumes are unlocked through the 100 Mario Challenge.

After my first day of playing, all I can say is....Wow! The level designs people are making are unreal....I've played so many courses that are easily on par with regular mario courses, and some that exceed them.

By far my favorite level type are the ones that have a puzzle component, along with some good platforming. Best example I've seen so far and also by far my favorite level from day 1:
