Dirty Bomb (PC) -- Splash Damage's new FPS

I've been playing a lot of Splash Damage's new FPS Dirty Bomb ever since it went into open Beta on STEAM. It's a return to their Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory style of class-based, objective-focused gameplay, only this time, without any of the parkour from Brink, or any of the vehicles and openness of Quake Wars. It's just old-school strafing and corridor shooting. The only movement mechanic they brought over from Brink is wall jumping.

Dirty Bomb's definitely worth checking out since it's free. Splash Damage added a 6th prototype map this weekend but it's exclusive to a new game mode called Extraction that's basically a Counter-Strike ripoff. I don't recommend trying that one. Stick to Stopwatch mode for the best experience. That's the style of gameplay Splash Damage has been doing for over a decade now.

    The Good News

    1) It's a double credits weekend starting Friday and running through Monday.

    2) PC Gamer is still giving away a free code to unlock the Fragger mercenary.

    3) Alienware is giving away free elite loadouts for the two starting mercenaries, Aura and Skyhammer.

    The Bad News

The game balance is totally borked right now thanks to the super OP class that was released on Tuesday called Phantom. He has the best SMG in the game, close to the best speed in the game, an invisibility cloak that shields him from damage, and a sword with ridiculous range that can one-hit-kill most mercenaries. Phantom will probably be nerfed soon -- maybe next week -- but until then, I basically leave any room that has more than one Phantom running around because it's so unfun.

I'm really enjoying DB. However the nerf for Phantom can't come soon enough. I have him and I don't even like playing with him since he is so OP.

Phantom finally got nerfed last week, so it's safe to play Dirty Bomb again!

I'll probably be playing a bunch over the next couple of days until the EASHL Beta arrives Thursday July 30.

It's a free "Elite Case" weekend, so everybody gets a free silver-or-better card just for logging in.

I'm on right now, rolling down Rodeo with my shotgun.
