Re: Best video game you've ever played
I don't know if it's the best ever, but the game that left the biggest impression on me was Ocarina of Time. I really was a new gamer when it originally came out and really stuck to things like sports, Mario or Sonic. For Christmas I pleaded with my mother to pre order the game so I could get the Gold Cartridge version.
I'll never forget the feeling of being wide-eyed when you left Kokori Forest and came upon Hyrule Field for the first time with the theme playing. The rest of the game was something I had never seen before in narrative, bosses, locations, etc.
Of course now I put games like Red Dead, Mass Effect 1 + 2, Dark Souls, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, Asheron's Call, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Bros. 3 and others on a list but Ocarina of Time is still my top game.
Has I said ocarina of time is my number one favorite game but I don't think it is nostalgia talking for me because I never owned a N64. I had a SNES and I had link to the past on it. After that the next system I had was a game cube and after my first game cube brook I end up getting the Zelda collection thing on game cube in like 04 and not long after wind waker to. I loved link to the past but ocarina of time was the one that really got me into Zelda and I end up getting a wii for mostly just Zelda skyward sword. I had seen and played a little of time before I got the collection thing on game cube but not enough to really know much about it or to really remember it. So by the time I really got into playing it the game had already been out for like 6-7 years. A close second favorite game is batman arkham city. The batman arkham franchise in a short time has became one of my favorite franchise of all time and I find city to be the best of the 4. A few other games I think of are tony hawk 3 and 4. I put so many hours into those game and some of the DKC games to.Comment

Everquest
Nearly perfect up through the Scars of Velious expansion. Difficult. Truly huge. So much to do and so many ways to never get anything done.
The handholding that came with the later expansions sort of ruined it for me, and my one foray into end game content may have soured me forever on cooperative gaming with semi random people but oh the early days.

Re: Best video game you've ever played
As a kid, Toejam and Earl was a real riot and so much fun. Super Mario 3 was like that too, plus any of the double dragon games just made my day as a kid.
Most recently I think that the Mass Effect series takes the honors for me.....Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Best video game you've ever played
"Best" is simply impossible for me to judge anymore across so many eras of hardware and software. But there is no doubt in my mind which one made the biggest impression on me as a gamer at the time of playing it, hooked me on an entire genre and influenced many of my future purchase decisions. I'm not sure if that makes it the "best" (it's certainly in the running, but again there are several I simply couldn't choose between), but anyway....

Re: Best video game you've ever played
I'd like to go with The Witcher but instead I'm going Morrowind because it really was one of the first games (although i did play Daggerfall so maybe it's that ) where i had t hat feeling of "holy ****, i have freedom to go and do whatever i want on this map. There are no rails. That blew my mind and opened me up to realizing how much I loved open world games compared to anything else.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Agree that Oblivion was on a whole other level though, and Skyrim turned it up to eleven (although I missed the endless green fields).Comment

Re: Best video game you've ever played
I guess the way I would answer this question would be based on what are the greatest, happiest memories I've ever had from playing video games? They took place while playing these games:
Tecmo bowl, Tecmo super bowl, coach k college basketball
Lakers vs celtics, Bulls vs lakers, NBA showdown
NBA live 95, nba live 97, NBA 2k8
Madden 2001, NFL 2k5, NCAA 06, NCAA 07
Gta vice city, gta San Andreas
Red dead redemption (online only - tried 3 seperate times (2010,2011,2013) but was never able to finish the story)
I wanted GTA V to be on this list but now after almost 2 years I still can't consistently get into the game.Comment
