It seems complex, and I'm going to have to devote some real time to it...but right now between 2K Football and Hockey, Burrnout 3, and Fable, I don't have alot of time. Fight for NY and X-Men legends drop this week too...Doesn't look good for KUF. Good game so far though...better than most strategy games out for the 'Box.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Kingdom under fire
OK, put about two hours into this game. As an RTS, its got everything a PC fan would expect. Troop "job trees" are a nice FF Tactics-esqe touch, you can really specialize your units, and each main hero (along his two "helpers") can also be trained and outfittted with a diverse set of weapons and armor. I'm not a huge PC guy, so many features that blew me away may be old hat for hardcore RTS fans, but I found this game to be incredibly deep.
Right now I have two units to switch back and forth from on the battlefield, ala Full Spectrum Warrior's set up. A light infantry unit and a group of archers. In battle, the Sun's position affects your archers, so getting good position for them is paramount as glare hurts their aim. I've read that you can control as many as 1,000 soldiers which will be crazy...since I'm only toting a small band of about 30 guys, and am still a little overwhelmed.
If this game was all strategy, I'd be perfectly happy..its easliy the cream of the strategy crop on the console market. The coolest thing is that the RTS portions transition into the free-for-all melee scenes SEAMLESSLY. Its like being in the middle of "Braveheart". The Dynasty Warriors inspired facets are OK, pretty much button mashing 101, but the strategy elements more than make up for the lack of depth there. Hacking thousands of Orcs into bite-size pieces is very relaxing though...
The only negatives I've seen is that the guys in charge of the music, voice acting, and script, were on a completely different page as everyone else, because while the story has a great Medieval feel complete with deep religous implications... the voice acting and scripting just don't match that tone. Imagine LOR's Aragorn having Keanu's Reeves' regular voice and speech patterns...and instead of an appropriate orchestral b/g music, they decided that some heavy metal would better suit the atmosphere....Uhhh No.
Other than those minor nitpicks, KUF is the best RTS we'll see on any console on this current generation. So..I hope that helps.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Kingdom under fire
Doc? What city did you pick it up in? I went to pick mine up yesterday in Portland, OR. and they told me it got pushed back to mid October. I was pissed as I've been waiting on this game for nearly 2 years. Does the game have the option to set the language spoken in the game to Japanese with English subtitles Doc? I hope so as that is what I did with Ninja Gaiden and Otogi and it's much better than the English voice work.Last edited by NINJAK2; 09-23-2004, 01:20 PM.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment
