Second that! Comes out to $.50 a day. Not too bad for the amount of fun you have. If you've ever wanted to be a super hero when you were a kid, you owe it to yourself to try this out.

Can you beat on any civilian at any time?

Can I pick a fight with other heroes?
Are there a lot of 'real' superhero clones in there?

you're a hero, not a villain, so you can't fight other heroes or beat up civillians. There are a ton of bad guys in the various areas though, so you can just beat up on them at any time. Around April next year they're releasing the City of Villains expansion pack, which will introduce PvP to the game, allowing you to be a Villain, not just a hero.

There are some clones, you can be a Claws scrapper, and make him look like Wolverine, but this game is more about making your own hero, with the powers you want. I prefer to be more creative and make my heroes look how i want.

Definitely worth the 15 bucks a month, like Injunwal and rheller have said. That's like going to 2 movies nowadays, and I get many many more hours of play from CoH than I would kicking out 15 bucks for 2 movies.

We all have a few.

That's one of the fun things: making new characters, and switching from one to the next.
