Prices of games to go up?

I already think games are too expensive. I think besides higher costs, pirating is causing prices to be jacked up.

If anything they should drop.......maybe that'd curb pirating.

Anyone would know that people pirate because its way too expensive as is.

Geez....thank goodness the CND dollar is getting stronger against the US or else i'd be shelling close to 100 bux for games. It does make sense tho to raise prices for a new generation console.

That's my thought. I obviously wouldn't be happy if they raised prices, but it wouldn't surprise me. See if this makes sense:

New gen consoles will use disc's that are cable of using 20-30 GB of data. I'm sure gaming companies are going to do everything they can to use up a good portion of that 20-30 GB. That means much more in terms of development IMO. Whether that be much deeper franchise modes, added games on each disc (like what Madden did with the Collector's Edition PS2 disc, or something else.

So if companies threw in added bonus type material, it might make it easier to stomach. I know if I get a game that can contain 30 GB of data and is going to cost $60-$80, I'm going to expect much more from the game than I would now (in terms of graphics which is a given, franchise mode, bonus material that's not gimmicky - see create-a-fan, etc...).

Re: Prices of games to go up?

I'd hope they wouldn't raise cost, it seemed to me like we were finally getting things to drop in price as all of the Sega Sports games are $20 this year, EA has dropped their last couple of releases to $40, and there are a few more games like Outlaw Golf 2, TOCA 2, and similar games that have dropped well below the $50 price mark. If they wanna charge $60 for top of the line games like HALO 2 I don't have a problem paying it cause I know I'll play the game for unlimited hours and continue to play for a year or more, but most games won't hold my attention that long. The lower prices on these games like Outlaw golf 2 and TOCA 2 got or will get my purhcase when I probably wouldn't have gotten 'em at $50. So hopefully the majority of companies will keep games at about $40 or more hoping that more games sold at a lower price is better than fewer games sold at the high price.

That would really suck if this happens. Let's all just boycott everything except for ESPN games. Maybe they would get the idea.

I think putting in higher prices is a mistake.

I look at myself as an example. I'm mainly a sports game and have been with EA since the company started but with ESPN dropping the price on all their new games at $30 I went out and bought ESPN NFL and ESPN NBA for the first time. If the game was $60-$65 like the regular price I wouldn't have bought them. Basically Sega is getting money from me because of the price drop, without it they wouldn't even get a penny.

If they raise the prices (which are already too high to begin with) it's just going to cause more people to pirate which will probably ironically lead to another price hike in order to recover lost revunues, which will turn off customers.
