    Acclaim Rising From The Ashes?

September 30, 2004 - According to UK-based games industry magazine MCV, recently-kaput developer and publisher Acclaim may see a rescue operation, of sorts.

An article posted on MCV today reports that Rod Cousens, a former CEO of Acclaim, along with Los Angeles-based Europlay Capital Advisers LLC, have acquired Acclaim's Cheltenham and Manchester studios.

The alleged acquisition would include several game properties, including Heist and Interview with a Made Man. The status of Juiced, technically owned by Fund 4 Games and rumored to be coveted by Take Two, is unknown.

The two studios affected by the acquisition, should it go through, comprise about 160 employees who have been effectively in limbo since Acclaim filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.

According to the article, the acquired studios would become a new company with a new name, operated by a team including former Acclaim head of publishing Barry Jafrato as well as Cousens.

So far, the alleged acquisition has not been confirmed elsewhere. Stay tuned for updates as details emerge.

I hope they do find a solution. Acclaim's games were good, just buggy as all hell.

Buggy? Yes, without a doubt. Good? Ummm....not unless you consider the CAW part of their wrestling games separate from the actual gameplay.

You would have a tough time naming successful PS2 or Xbox Acclaim games.
