Next Generation Console Disc Formats
IGN has an article up on potential storage media for PS3, XBox 2 and the next Nintendo system.

Re: Next Generation Console Disc Formats
After reading the article and doing some research on these two formats, it is sounding like Blu-Ray is leading the way. It appears to have more support and there is more information that can be stored on this disk versus HD-DVD. -

Re: Next Generation Console Disc Formats
Aslo in an interesting note, I saw on CNN.com's stocks/finance site, that Sony is going to be showing off 100gig blue ray discs early next year.
Only thing is, with so much room for media on either format, which is going to be best cost effeincey wise. People will probably get agravated if the prices go up even 5 bucks on Movies now.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: Next Generation Console Disc Formats
There are obviously advantages and disadvantages.
But, the Blu-Ray disk seems to be the new format that would outweight any negatives with huge positives."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Hey DX!Originally posted by DXZekePeople will probably get agravated if the prices go up even 5 bucks on Movies now.
I tend to disagree. People will always pay for quality. If there is a CLEAR improvement in picture and sound quality, people will buy them. Me included. This situation is very similar to when DVD players came out on the scene. People were like 'What? $700 for a new video machine? Why would I do that when I have a 4-head VCR?' Then they see the picture. 'Whoa! That IS much better than what I have! Here is my money!'
Now, I understand that DVD players are a lot less expensive today but it is the same with any other technology. Something good is on the market and it continues to drop in price. Something better comes along that is more expensive. As people continue to purchase it, it too drops in price. Then something better comes along, and something better, better, better…Comment

Hey DarkLord,
I see your point. =)
At the same time do you really think the movie studios will take full advantage of the Blue Ray format?
I know a lot of manufactures of the HD-DVD players said that they'll have DVD players that play both formats - thankfully. It'll just be interesting to see who does what on what format and how much they take advantage of it.
If the PS3 games are on blueray, how much are those discs going to get taken advantage of by the developers...?
You see on gamespot.com yesterday they reported that the HD-DVD disc makers are begging Microsoft to use that format on XBox 2. I found that fairly amusing, but I think it would be even funnier if Micro used the blue ray discs instead. Use the other guys disc format and beat them at their own game, but I highly doubt that would happen.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment
