Re: "Light" version of AAA games

Just had a thought...does anyone blog/journal their progress in non-sports games? I mean, clearly people do it with sports games but I don't usually see much for others. I know there is the whole spoiler aspect to consider but it sounds like one of my biggest hurdles is trying to pick up a story after some time off. Something like that might allow me/us to catch back up fairly quickly.

Maybe I'll give it a shot once I start my next "new" game. Obviously, it would work a little better in a community setting with a more linear game (The Last of Us, for example) than with an open-world RPG (Fallout) where everyone is going to have a different path/experience.

Same. I've always been a gamer that skims the surface, all the way back to Avalon Hill tabletop games (guess I don't need to specify my age with that reference). Luckily, I genuinely enjoy checking out a game's mechanics and getting a decent feel for the experience and don't get too angsty about not finishing.

With a 12 hour work/commute day, a family life and a May-September golf addiction, I only have so much time. I mostly play sports games in career mode, and dabble in story mode games. Once a year I give a few weeks of my life to an online shooter, and swear them off forever every Christmas.

My new strategy has been to grab a game, play it until that "Oh I haven't felt like touching that for the past 5 nights" sets in, and trade it to Best Buy while I can still get value. I got Far Cry Primal that way for a mere 30 bucks and still enjoying that. But its probably on its back 9.

The one disappointment about this is that I think I would really enjoy MOBAs but I completely understand I don't have time to even begin to do anything competitively with those (I do play DOTA2 with bots from time to time).

And I haven't even seen anyone mention how the explosion of bingeworthy tv from Netflix and Amazon has drained even more time away from gaming.

Yeah, too many games. Too little time. 36, 2 jobs, 2 kids, a gym addiction. Took me 3 days to get The Show inside the PS4. This didnt happen when I was younger lol

Would you enjoy a "light" version of those type of games? I would. I find it pretty frustrating that I really can't experience those games. I know my wish probably doesn't make financial sense to big game companies, but I'd kill for a 25-hour Witcher 3 or 25-hour DA: Inquisition version of each game.

Could I play and finish a game like Witcher 3? Yeah, it would probably take me a calendar year to play 100 hours, though. Sigh.

Man, if I was 15 now rather than 42... I would be in heaven thanks to the quality game experiences that exist now.
I'm in the same boat too.
I rarely have time for games, so it'd be nice to find some single-player games that can be wrapped-up in 10 hours or less.

Like you said, we were born in the wrong era. I would have had a heyday with some of the games this generation has been producing.
It took me over a month to complete Mad Max and I think I put approx 25 hours into it.
It would take me a year to complete a game like The Witcher or Dragon Age.

Haha, it took me 25 hours to beat Mad Max too, but over 2 weeks and I felt like I was strapped for time.
