People should be able to play this game any way they want, however I should have the option to not play with people who don't care to help, capture objectives, or win.

If you want to sit on a hillside and somehow have fun go for it. However, the squad I play with is consistently screwed because our skill rating puts us on teams with teammates who don't care at all about being a squad or using teamwork.
Their low skill score is directly tied to them just being awful snipers that do not capture points, or support their squad . Team balancing needs a big overhaul.
I believe this is an important point of emphasis. If you are a sniper, unless you are one of the top snipers in the entire community you are simply not going to be able to capture objectives by sniping. In the end, if you are not able to clear enemies there is just no point. In general, that is difficult to do by sniping given the typical approach a sniper takes.

Everyone has the freedom to play the game however he/she wants to. However, if someone thinks that by laying down at the edge of the map, or some location far away from an objective is going to help capture objectives, that person is highly mistaken.

Another thing I have noticed is that the skill difference in this game is very noticeable compared to the previous battlefields. You end up with a handful of really good players and everyone else is just very mediocre. I can go into why I think it's harder to do really well in this game, but I will save that for another post.

All in all, sniping is not very conducive to capturing objectives. If you end up on a team that has a significantly high number of snipers you are most likely not going to win simply because those players will be the least likely to try and move to the objective area. I am saying all this in reference to the conquest mode.

Yes, exactly. I get so annoyed when I'm in a squad and I spawn on a guy who is laying down on the edge of the map sniping. Then you look at the scorecard and he/she barely has any points because they haven't capped, and not many kills either. So basically a useless squad member.

Yes, pretty much. I didn't want to use the term "useless", but there really is no better way to refer to these type of players. I don't get how you can enjoy being completely stationary looking through the scope of your sniper rifle for the entire duration of a match, to end up with what? maybe 5 kills. It's appalling. Why even play a game if you decide not to even contribute. BF1 needs to have a free for all snipers only mode, or a snipers vs snipers mode/lobby. Maybe then, all the snipers will stay away from conquest and focus on finding each other on the edges of the map. Imagine that, a buncha snipers slowly crawling on the edges of the map looking for each other through the scope. How amazing!

All good points. My only frustration with BF1 online is the small amount of people who play with mikes. Communication really helps with effective teamwork in this game.

Maybe it depends on the mode but I'm a sniper main and I'm consistently like 20+ kills, single digit deaths and most of my team is normally at the top of the scoreboard if I'm squad leader. And this is with me moving around. At least its been that way for the last week or since the patch. You guys need to find better snipers if they only get single digit kills. You need me :-)

why would you spawn on someone at the edge of the map?

BF4's spawn cam was great, not sure why it got taken out.

I would argue pilots can be just as useless. Some matches the sky seems filled with planes, but mainly they are just after each other, rinse and repeat - depends on the map though.

I mentioned before I snipe a lot and I think I'm reasonably good at it, and find it very satisfying. I usually spawn a few times as a medic and support, sometimes assault during a match and get back to scout, depending on the map and what's happening. At the same time, I'm just not seeing what you guys are to that extreme. I feel like I'm killed the most by medics and assault 2nd. Since I snipe I see the other team's snipers in typical locations and mix between shooting at them and shooting at other enemies. I find usually 4-5 snipers on the other team that are in my sightline and probably another few obscured by terrain/buildings etc that I don't see. So that's about 8 total or 25% scout. I have seen more, but not very often at all.

I wouldn't even be opposed to a cap, but how would that work? are all classes capped at 25%, if not, how do you split? and since we're all paying customers, how do you ensure I get to use my class of choice more often than not?

And I've said this before, I don't get killed by snipers very often - and I can say with certainty it's not 25% of the time. I can see the objection to them not helping the cause on your own team more than them picking you off on the other.

I like to really mix it up and snipe at long ranges, medium and go handgun and take objectives in a ballsy way being out-gunned like that at close range - then go medic/support If I know the range will be lower and back to scout and so on.

All that said though, the number one 'fun' part of this game or any shooter is killing enemies. winning the 'game' is secondary, but it happens that capping objectives gives you the advantage and makes it easier to kill - so that's motivation enough for me plus the points. However, unless you play in a good squad or on a good team - you're not going to win no matter how well you do... so just take it easy and kill as many enemies as you can! That's the point, who cares how other play (to an extent) right? I'd rather go 22-7 capping 6 or 7 flags and lose than 'win' without seeing much action - the game is puzzling how you end up winning many times which is another discussion, but I've seen my team cap more, objectives and seem to kill more and still lose somehow

A lot of times they are the only option if you don't want to spawn in the middle of a firefight and get spawn killed, or every objective it taken by the opponent.

For those of you that like playing sniper and do it effectively, please don't take gut's, rez's, or my comments personally.

I'm sure there are plenty of effective snipers out there, and no doubt many of you are some of them.

We're referring to the many useless ones we end up getting on our side. Something we unfortunately have no control over.

I like rez's idea of a sniper only map so they can pick each other off from the edges of the map lol.

Taking nothing personally, I love your posts! I'm just saying I think it's easy to pick on and more obvious than the planes example I gave or any other class where they spawn and rush and die over and over. I think some people snipe after getting killed so much so that can try and figure out why they keep dying by watching from afar lol. But seriously, a medic running straight into enemy fire over and over can be just as damaging to the team.

All in all I'm having fun with the game, and I'm kind of hoping they do a full ww2 expansion to it with all new weapons and maps. maybe ww2/korean hybrid so helicopters can come into the fray. As much as I like the game and play most nights, I still get that 'something's missing' feeling. BF4 had the complexity, although I prefer this game's shooting 'feel', but I think adding to the complexity a bit would help...along with way more customization maybe the look of characters - even simple things like the dog tags, I feel like they took away things like that were nice to collect/wear.

Re: Battlefield 1 (PC, PS4, XBOX One)

I think its hard to tell which Snipers are useless and which aren't.

B1 in my opinion is the best Battlefield for sniping that I've played. Excellent weapon balance in my opinion and you can't spam spotting.

With that said the maps are perfect those who patiently spot while others cap. Again I'm not sure if that constitutes being a "good" scout or not but that's how I play. Sometimes that equates to a lower score but if we're having trouble taking and holding objectives I'll change over to a scout.

I work through the objectives with a system.

I'll perch out and spot so the incoming troops can more easily clear a flag. I rarely shoot until the objective is fully taken. I see more value in staying hidden while spotting until the flag is capped than to get a kill and give up my location.

Then I'll move in a bit and spot/snipe any incoming enemies until the flag is capped.

Then I'll move to the opposite side of the objective and spend a good 30 seconds checking to see if a stray was waiting out our team so they can swoop in and recapture an unguarded flag.

Then I'll move to the next objective.

I'll rack up a ton of spots but not always a ton of kills so I could see how someone just looking at my score might think I'm hurting the team or just camping for fun.

Ok guys, I'm looking for feedback. I don't really play online games, normally. Recently I've branched out for my son's sake and have played Star Wars Battlefront 3 and The Division. With one being fairly casual and the other being more RPG like, I can keep up. It looks like Battlefield 1 might be my next test. I want to like BF1. It looks like it could be fun, but I'm worried about skill level/accessibility.

Bottom line: I suck. I will very likely continue to suck. I am thinking about giving it a go, but reading these last few pages I can tell you that I'd likely be one of the crappy players some of you complain about (well, not the "camp in the back and do nothing" type, but something more along the lines of "constantly dies due to the vision and reflexes of a 90 year old blind man" type). I play objectives, just poorly.

Anyway, I'm getting the game for my son either way and can certainly give it a try regardless. What I'm trying to decide is whether or not it's worth spending a bit more for digital over disc so we can perhaps play together.

I'm just looking for feedback on how hardcore the community tends to be. My last true FPS experience was with one of the older COD games and that wasn't for me. I don't care about getting my *** kicked. I expect it and am cool with it. I just don't want a screeching teenage voice in my ear reminding me of it the whole time...lol.

                        So, any insight is appreciated.

Ignore what a person like me says when complaining about poor teammates, I'm just rambling, venting my frustrations lol.

Your skill set or lack thereof doesn't matter in the end. What matters is that you're putting forth your best effort and more importantly having fun.

A person like me has prolly been playing these types of games for too long and I've become jaded. I expect too much from myself and the randoms that end up playing with my squadmates & me.

Never give a second thought to the silly ramblings of posts like ours hehe. If you wanna play it, just buy it and give it a go.
Ultimately it's about having fun, so if you buy it, just have fun playing it and to hell with thinking about your performance.

Most of us are older guys and we're always in party chat because we prefer not hearing the kids yelling when playing. We just about play it daily (evenings), it's a fun shooter and I believe it has a more mature crowd than cod.

                          Enjoy & good luck.

If you want to buy and play the game, go for it. Its a game and should be fun for you. Battlefields take a little learning curve, but you will get the hang of it and start having fun. I never worry about what anyone says. It seems like there are some really good guys here, so talk to a few and ask to join a game. Listen, watch and learn. That is my favorite part of battlefield, you can learn something new everytime you play. As for being that guy who isnt great, most times if you play hard, talk and have fun they will know youre doing your best. Play as a swuad and better yet as a team if you can. If you do that, watch their backs and call out things they will respect that and never even give a seconf thought to your score or k/d. I hope this helps and you have fun.

There's definitely a learning curve but you don't need be exceptional at anything to contribute to a team and have fun.

This game is all about team work and creating an advantage that way. You can't really lone wolf it.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
