Anyway, finished the story of Arkham City last night and now looking forward to cleaning up the map running around as TAS Batman (Year One suit is also nice) plus the challenge maps. I completely forgot the ending, but I'm glad I had. Ouch. Arkham Asylum's ending was pretty meh (Titan Joker fight is seriously still a headscratcher to me), but the "double twists" and multiple reveals at the end of the game fall flat. Heck, they never really got off the floor.

And again with the most mundane boss fight to end the game? Spam freeze bombs and dodge? ****ing nonsense. The inclusion of Catwoman is nice, but she really feels shoehorned into the story as a playable character just to make her showing up at the end of the game make sense. I enjoy her character set, but her actual characterization is...it just feels slimy by the end of the game. I don't know. It's a fine line to walk and I don't think Rocksteady was nuanced enough to come across well. I know there was some "noise" about how the goons referred to Catwoman during the game and I largely ignored it, but its certainly not aging well in today's climate. Oh well.

With that said - the rest of the game is fantastic and the gameplay is nearly flawless. I'm looking forward to finishing those challenge maps.

I haven't decided which direction to go with this series yet. I want to see how AK looks on PC, but I also feel like following AC up with Arkham: Origins makes narrative sense.
The DC Fandome schedule says that WB Montreal will have a game announcement at 1:30 ET 8/22. So that points to the Batman game. I would expect a trailer and release date for that.

Haha. I saw your update right after I posted that. Good timing!

Started this game back up from scratch on the remastered version. To think I forgot how good this game was and really set the tone for comic adaptations. I think Spider-Man really took the cue Arkham games IMO. Graphics are absolutely awesome for this gen and the remaster made it better.

Really would like to see a Batman or better yet Superman game on the XBSX/PS5 They had a demo with the new unreal engine 5 with Superman flying around….such a bad tease as I wanted more. I really didn’t like the inclusion of tank fighting in AK. In a new game I would love a more physical and carnal death stroke fight, of course joker/Quinn, Two face, GCPD, and other notebles. Gotham knights was great, I just didn’t particularly enjoy the court of owls as the main baddie with another a’gul. Maybe the court of owls who EMPLOY death stroke to hunt and target you throughout the game before a final battle? Each “burrow” of Gotham has its own boss you have to deal with? Who knows.

I agree. I enjoyed Arkham Knight. That's probably one of the very few games I nearly 100% completed. I'm usually a beat the campaign and drop it type of single player gamer. But the over-usage of the tank fighting was overkill for me, especially with the repetitive tank sequences.

I tried replaying Arkham City recently. That was my favorite of the bunch, but for some reason I couldn't really get back into it. I think it was the Frame Rate. I think I got spoiled with 60fps, that I can notice it in that type of game. Like you said, with Spider-Man having a similar combat system, you can notice the impact of high frame rate in those games compared to Spider-Man. I just got done playing Miles Morales in 120hz VRR performance mode. It'd be hard playing in 30fps with that combat system after playing in 70-90 fps.

I do hope they aren't done with Batman. It'll not be the same without the voice actor. But, that's something they could reboot in a couple years. I do remember seeing that Batman won't be in the Sucide Squad game. But, Batman seems like the type of character that you recycle every decade or so, like Spider-Man.

Haven’t played Mike’s morales but it’s high on the “to-do” list. Afraid now since you said one you play that FPS combat speed you can’t go back to any of the Arkham/Gotham games lol

At first, I thought the whole frame rate thing was some PC elitist stuff. Now I'm a believer lol. Certain games, it doesn't matter as much. But, it does make a difference. I got the C2 recently and wanted to try out the 120hz VRR performance mode. It definitely delivers playing between 70-90fps. Even just at 60fps, it's a big difference.

Batman should have more of a weighted combat system than Spider-Man/MM. But in 30fps, Batman felt more sluggish than weighted. I wouldn't want to see Batman move as quick as Miles Morales, but I would want to see it be more smooth and responsive. I wouldn't even mind seeing a re-remaster of the Arkham Games or at least drop a next gen patch for the Return to Arkham games that off performance modes.

That line right there will make it tough for me to play another batman centric game. Kevin Conroy's voice was the Batman. Whenever I think Batman, it's always with his voice. Maybe they can find someone who can live up to his mantle, but it will definitely be hard.

It will be tough, for about 30 mins if the graphics are up to date with FPS 60-70 range consistently. Lol I am starting to understand what Illwill was saying.I thought it was just dramatic effect fighting but it was the frame rate lol I wished it was faster and smoother at a few spots.

Sad that it’s under bad circumstances but I was happy to see this thread bumped. I also went back to Return to Arkham last weekend. I downloaded Arkham Asylum from this collection to my PS5 and started a playthrough on Hard, which I’ve never done in this game. I played a few hours and loved it, other than going back to 30fps haha but you get used to that pretty quickly anyways. But yea, gonna miss Kevin Conroy as Batman. He will always be the goat for me. Heck now I want to platinum both Asylum and City. Not sure how hard the platinum is for these games but screw it let’s go!

I notice it more when fighting in crowds and going villain to villain. That's where I compare it to Spider-Man/MM. Batman should feel more weighted, but you can see how much more smoother it is going villain to villain in the Spider-Man games.

I would love a next gen patch that unlocks a performance mode for the Batman games. Shadow of the Tomb Raider and God of War did it early last year and it made a big difference. I don't even need a re-remaster like I mentioned earlier. The visuals still holds up well. Just unlock the frame rates and I'll be happy
