    I Am Setsuna

Anyone planning to get this? It comes out tomorrow. Its a traditional JRPG on PS4 inspired by Chrono Trigger. I'm very interested but its $40 so not sure without hearing some impressions.

I was looking at it. Reviews from the couple I've seen, have been 8/10

Basically saying it's nothing really new to the genre ..

however the developers have said it was a nod to the older RPG's..

I may grab it up but not sure I will at 40.00

The review embargo lifts at 12am EST. I'm waiting for that, player impressions and a 50% price drop. Square Enix pricing this game at $40 is absurd. Maximum should be $20 for various reasons but the main one being that at $20, the game will sell better.

I agree. I'll buy I as soon as it's in the 20-25 range on a sale

Despite the low 2.5/5 score, the game sits at an 80 on open critic.

              Twinfinite gave it a 4.5/5

So it looks like Games Radar is the odd man out. They even called the combat "broken." Have't seen that brought up in any of the other reviews.

The kotaku review has me feeling pretty good about it

It's out now actually, on PS4 at least. Unlocked at midnight.

It seems to be pretty simplistic so far, definitely a callback to the old-school RPG's. One quirk is that weapons seem to dictate a character's defensive stats as well as their attack, and those stats can apparently be enhanced as I move through the game (not sure yet if I actually buy new weapons as I move along).

The graphics aren't going to knock anyone over - the environments themselves are nice but the characters bear a style similar to Squenix's 3D versions of their NES/SNES-era FF games, or Bravely Default. It definitely has an old-school look in 3D, so if you have to have pretty graphics in your video games it's probably going to bother you (personally I'm fine with it - I enjoyed Bravely). Unlike those two other examples it does at least run in 60 FPS, and what graphics are there look crisp and clean.

Don't want to comment too much on the story until I'm farther in, but I'll just say it starts out on a very familiar trope.

Need more time to form more of an opinion, I'm not one to judge whole games based on an hour of play. Mostly just wanted to let people know it's out.

1.5 GB btw - how that will correlate to game length, I can't say. But given the low graphical overhead on this one, it's probably plenty long enough even at that size.

Totally has been worth the 39.99 thus far. Having never played any of the games that Setsuna is paying homage to, I think I'm becoming a fan of turn-based RPGs for the same reason I play coach mode in sports games-it's about the strategy as opposed to 'gittin gud'.
