Enough already....Just play the game (GTA:SA)

This week I spent as much time as possible playing GTA:San Andreas as I could. With two jobs, a fiance, and other things, I just dont have as much time as the extreme gamer to play my PS2. But when I do, I really enjoy the time.

The new GTA has gotten my excited about gaming again. The game is fun, deep, and all in all a 'tight' (syn. Fresh, Good, A Blast) game. The biggest part of GTA for me is figuring things out, learning the map, where certain cars are, etc. Its just fun. But also, when you play through again you come across a crap load of things you missed the first time or can do better to improve your status in the game.

But for a first week release, I am seeing a ton of strategy guides, tip books, survival handbooks and features on most of the gaming sites (IGN, Gamespot, Game Informer etc). Its like Geez, can we enjoy the game somewhat before you tell us how to beat it! I purposely stayed offline this weekend, due to the overload of gaming info on GTA.

One of the things that made GTA III attractive in the first place was figuring things out. For instance for a long time, no one believed you could fly the Dodo. Then months down the line, some developed a strategy that sparked everyones interest in the game again (even for those that had completed the missions version). People wanted to know if they could fly across the water, or start a police riot and take off in the plane. Today, GTA 3 is still one of the most popular boards on Gamefaqs.com.

Now it seems sites are trying to boost traffice by putting any little GTA tip, trip, or cheat. I wish they would chill for a minute and let us get into the game. At least on this site, people do take the time to label their threads with the *Spoiler* tag. I appreciate that guys. But for a while, I think I will stay away from the major sites. I dont want to spoil my $50 investment in week.

this has been happening for years now. You can thank the internet

my advice is to stay away from boards like you mentioned. I think people forgot somewhere along the lines that it is still possible to enjoy a game and find new things without resorting to a forum where it shows you step by step how to go through a game.

I will admit the OS community has been good about this, labeling post about spoilers etc. I truly appreciate it. Thanks Guys!

Honestly, I think it's intentional on Rockstar's part.

The games are so huge, and have so many obscure/hidden things, it almost necessitates an internet community to solve it. And that, in turn, creates buzz ....

I think a game with this sort of size needs a dedicated community of ppl who are willing to help you get out of a jam. I know I can do it myself but this game is simply to huge to use trail and error all the way through.

I have no problem with help, but when I to 1up for instance, there is a whole section on GTA survival guides. It hasnt been a week since this game was released.

exactly...and personally I don't have the time now that I did when I was a kid to sit and struggle for hours, my time's a bit more valuable now. I don't want to have the game ruined for me by spoilers, but learning some stuff I might not have learned otherwise (because the game's so deep).
