    Dead Rising 4

    Dead Rising 4
    Releases on 12/6/16
    Xbox One

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/dead-rising-4

Dead Rising 4 returns to Willamette, the setting of the original game, during the Christmas season. The game is a sequel set sixteen years after the events of the first game, and one year after the events of Dead Rising 3, though it also acts as a soft reboot of the series. Dead Rising 4 also does away with the restrictive time limit, much like the Wii port of the original, Dear Rising: Chop 'til you Drop

        Re: Dead Rising 4

        Impressions.

First I adored Dead Rising 1. It the game that i first played ona xbox 360 and was like WOW I'm in a mall...It looked and felt so real at the time. Surreal almost. The mechanics were decent but the setting was PERFECT.

Happily i can say that Dead Rising 4 upholds that same awe...somewhat.

I did not play through Dead Rising 2,3 or any of the off shoots...I got em played em for a bit but that was it. They didnt draw me in like the setting at Willamette Mall did.

There's just something about hack n slashes that rely heavily on setting for me.

I prefer TorchLight rather than Diablo and i don't like the lore in Warcraft(If we're to call that a hack n slash)

So for me Dead Rising "worked" in a mall for a sorta sandbox type of hack n slash.

Dead Rising 4 nails the mall feel again and more importantly REALLY brings back the series to its roots.

The storyline is decent although very 80'sish(which if your a fan of no nonsense films like big trouble in little china then its all good)

The combat is again decent. hasn't changed much other than the fact that its smoother.

But everything i loved in Dead Rising is there now in Dead Rising 4. along with some welcome additions.

Camera earning you extra xp? yep. Food everywhere? yep. WEapons galore?yep.

Now what they've added is a a cool "unlock/hacking feature" to the camera as well that helps open doors.

Right now after say 2 hrs I'd rate DR4 a...

        8.4/10

(but what was i thinking playing Let It Die after? that game is amazing guys)

I'm waiting for sales, but sounds like a fun game. Everything I've read says that they took all the annoying parts out of prior ones and made this just about open world fun with no annoying timers or anything. I have read that it seems a lot easier, so not as much of a risk of dying, but makes it for more innovative fun.

Don't have the game but loved the original Dead Rising. Willamette Mall is one of my all-time favorite game world's. I'm glad they've gone back to it and that alone has me really interested in DR4.

I read the same thing about the difficulty and I guess I play this game differently but I've died quite a few times. I don't play in a try hard mode so I wade into hordes guns blazing. The maniacs do feel slightly easy but they have never been the focus of the game to me. All in all it feels pretty good to me for what I was looking for. A mind numbing zombie killer.

                  Re: Dead Rising 4

Finally finished DR3 a few days ago. Really fun stuff. Got DR4 straight after and have begun my time with it. Straight off the bat, I love the charm of this game. It has a unique atmosphere that I find appealing. The story is built up a little differently to the other games in the series too.

I don't mind the new kind of Frank West save for one thing, he is deliberately goofy which is cool but there are times where he comes across as simply uncaring and I reckon he would have been a better character if they paired his goofy style with a more humane attitude rather than being douchebag like at times. The script and voice acting and delivery makes me laugh and us enjoyable stuff. It's kind of corny fare but the delivery is humorous with fun interplay between straight characters and goof balls mixing it up.

The new Willamette Mall is just great. Really enjoying how they brought it back to life (only to die anew) and I absolutely dig the occasional throw back tunes from DR1 that play through the malls speaker system. The Christmas motif is bloody good and the art design totally adds charm.

Movement is more fluid as is melee and ranged shooting. The changed inventory system seems easy enough and quite intuitive. I just have to unlearn the old system the series has run with. Driving is still a bit clunky but that too contributes to moments of silly unscripted hijinx, which really, is what a lot of this series offers the gaming universe. Dead Rising for me is all about moving through cool settings racking up episodic sequences of mayhem and hijinx against mindless slave hoards offering themselves up to meet their second death by any creative means of profanity.

Love the game, brings more of the same in a delightful new spin.

Just out doing some Christmas shopping with my wife at the local large mall, I'm have DR4 withdrawals!! It's so busy in here that if everyone but me and my wife got infected there would be the same number of "on screen" zombies as in the game.

A game that doesnt have an ending.

And you have to buy the dlc to get that

Even the overtime is paid dlc

                        Woooowww

I'd definitely wait if i were a fan of this series

                            Re: Dead Rising 4

Really enjoyed this one, got it for Christmas and just beat it, and I'm not one to power through games, though the Dead Rising series always held a special spot with me. (I remember trying to get the zombie kills achievement in the original in between high school finals, since I had a high school that allowed me to come home between finals.)

This is likely my second favorite Dead Rising behind the original. It's got it's quirks, both positive and negative but I cannot complain, a solid 8 from me. It's got fun gameplay, it does try to bounce between seeming horror esque and overflowing with humor, and at times it just misses, and other times it's a nice blend. Christmas theme is pretty interesting as well.

I might've been one of the few but I actually enjoyed having a timed story mode from the first three, it gave more identity as you had to decide between certain paths and/or perfect your speed. Though I also liked having a free mode to complete missions as well.

As for questions about the ending being behind a paywall, I'd have to wait and see how that one looks when it comes out, all in all the ending that exists as it stands is a pretty solid wrap up. No where near ME3 levels. Just curious how they tie in the DLC.

Edit: Got an odd bug for the final case where no vocal audio was being played, all the ambiance and environment noise, but not vocals and subtitles faded away so wasn't able to actually hear what was being said, just read whatever did pop up.
