      Re: 2017 Gaming Plans

I ended up purchasing way more than intended thanks to some great deals on Steam. Plus, the Switch is turning out to be an outstanding little system.

      Switch:
      Mario Odyssey
      Skyrim
      Xenoblade 2

      PC:
      Wolfenstein 2
      Shadow of War
      XCOM 2
      Call of Duty WW2
      Divinity 2

      PS4:
      Project Cars 2
      Assassins Creed Origins

      Xbox:
      Forza 7

Way too many games to play. I won't be buying another game until The Show 18. And Red Dead 2. I'm set for months, if not years.

        Re: 2017 Gaming Plans

I feel like a dude who was on a diet and completely fell off the wagon by going into Baskin Robbins and ordering all the flavours at once. I had bought just a few games this year and concentrated on clearing my back log. But then Black Friday hit. I upgraded to a PS4 Pro which meant I had to buy a 4K TV which meant I had to buy some games to play on the new TV. Makes sense, right?

        Games Purchased in 2017

        Black Friday Purchases

        Assassin’s Creed Origins (PS4 -- Hard) – Level 6, 5 per cent
        Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (PS4) – Not Started
Far Cry Primal (PS4) -- Not Started
Ghost Recon Wildlands (PS4 -- Advanced)
MLB 17: The Show (PS4) -- Not Started
Dragon Age Inquisition DLC (PC) -- Not Started
Sniper Elite 4 (PC) -- Not Started

        Older 2017 Purchases

Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4) – Completed -- 100 per cent
        Battlefield 1 (PS4 - Hard) – Story Three – Storm of Steel -- Level 7 Online
Pillars of Eternity (PC -- Hard – Act 2/Character Level 6
Star Wars Empire at War (PC)
No Man’s Sky (PC) – Second Planet
Life is Stange (PC) – Not Started
Stardew Valley (PC) – Level 2 Farmer

        F1 2016 (PS4 – Medium) – First Race: Australia -- 17th place

Sky Force Anniversary (Free via PS4-Plus Free) – Level 5
Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain (Free via PS4-Plus) – Not Started

        Games Completed in 2017

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: Restored Content Mod (PC) A great RPG sequel that follows the story of the Knights of the Old Republic I. Over the years, I completely lost two saved game files so it was sweet to finally finish this game. An interesting story, great writing and characters that develop over the course of the journey more than make up for the now dated graphics and animations. Combat isn’t usually a big element in RPGs but the force powers were very satisfying to use. You’ll find this game in most lists of the top 10 Star Wars video games. 8.5 out of 10.

Assassin’s Creed Unity (PC – 99 per cent) Someone in this forum best described this game as the developer’s love affair with Paris. It is remarkably beautiful and the detail is incredible. I stop and marveled at the furniture in the palaces. The French Revolution setting is fascinating. But the story was just okay; I liked Arno. The female character bored me and the ending wasn’t great. I killed more people in this game than existed in all of Paris in the 18th century which was a turn off. I loved the Paris stories, solving the murder mysteries and deciphering the Nostradamus Enigmas. I’m in the minority but I didn’t like the fact it had little connection with the modern story arc throughout the series. Although the game is old, I was surprised I was able to find players online to complete the more difficult co-op missions. If you’re wondering why I couldn’t 100 per cent the game it is because you needed to do that with companion app. Yeah, that’s annoying. 7.5 out of 10.

Assassin’s Creed Unity: Dead King’s DLC (PC – 100 per cent) I usually don’t play DLC but since it was free I finished it. The ending alludes to Egypt which is interesting given the latest game in the series is set there. 7 out of 10.

Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4 – Hard -- 100 per cent – Level 50) I’m glad I listened to everyone here and played on Hard level because Normal would have been too easy. Interesting story but I grew tired of the fights at the end and just wanted to progress the story. 9.5 out of 10.

Far Cry 4 (PC – Normal – 100 per cent) I’ve played Far Cry 1, 2, 3 and this is probably my favourite in the series with Far Cry 2 a close second. Epic setting. I think they used mountains, elevation and climbing more effectively than any other game including Unchartered. My only complaint was there weren’t more missions/cut scenes involving the primary characters since they were so interesting. Pagan Min and Longus are some of my all-time favourite characters. Just wish I got to hear more from them. 9 out of 10.

Valkyria Chronicles (PC – Normal). Great game if you like turn based strategy in the Xcom mold and wanted your little dudes to have more personality. 9 out of 10.

Shadow of Mordor (PC -- 100 per cent) So many Orcs were slaughtered under my blade. 9 out of 10. I’ll play the DLC one day. Think I need a break for now from all the Orc carnage.

Dragon Age Inquisition (PC -- Normal) A masterpiece that took me forever to complete since I did almost all the side quests. My only complaint if you could call it that is that you didn’t really feel like you had control of the battles because your companions did their own thing. I guess I like turn based combat better. 9 out of 10.

        THE BACKLOG

        The Witcher 3 (PC -- Normal) -- Level 27 -
Ryse of Rome (PC -- Centaurian) -- 24 per cent
        Fallout 4 (PC -- Hard) -- Level 20
        Watch Dogs (PS4) – 10.1 per cent
Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC – Seasoned Raider) – 11 per cent
XCom Enemy Within (PC -- Normal)
Far Cry: Blood Dragon (PC – Medium)

        NBA 2K16 (PS4) -- Toronto (3-3)
        Madden 16 (PS4) -- San Diego (2-7)
        MLB 16 (PS4) – Toronto (11-10)
        MLB 15 (PS4) --Washington (28-28)
        MLB 14 (PS3) -- Los Angeles (20-13)

Oblivion: Shivering Isles (PC) -- Level 30
        Crysis (PC) (7 of 11)
Bioshock Infinite (PC) (Hard, Area 28 of 40)
        State of Decay (PC)
Shadow of Colossus (PS3) (2 dead)

XBOX ONE X has re-ignited my goal to finish stories. Wow are the games beautiful.

          Current list:

Tomb Raider definite edition - currently playing, fun as hell
Rise of Tomb Raider 20 year
          AC Origins
          Witcher 3
          Ghost Recon Wildlands
          COD WW2

          Have not finished:
MGS PhantomPain - not really digging after 1st mission
Battlefield 1 - some reason kicks my ***
          Batman Arkham City- half done
Star Wars BF 2- played in EA Access trial, do not have game yet.
AC Black Flag - want to go back and finish, got stuck on ship mission.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Only bought 2 games this year:

The Show (played it a few times and shelved it)
Everybody's Golf (played for a while and stopped)

I think I lost my gaming passion.

                  Re: 2017 Gaming Plans

This year has been tough for me, so I didn't get a lot of gaming in. I think I've lost some of the passion as well.

                  Purchased in 2017
                  • Madden 18 (waited for BF sale)
                  • MLB 17
                  • NBA 2K17 (on sale)
                  • Batman: Return to Arkham (on sale)
                  • Dead Island Definitive Edition (on sale)
                  • Everybody's Golf
                  • Gran Turismo Sport
                  • Call of Duty WWII (on sale)
                  • F1 2017 (on sale)

                  Currently Playing
                  • Madden 18 (haven't started my dynasty yet)
                  • Everybody's Golf
                  • Gran Turismo Sport
                  • Rise of the Tomb Raider

I only play in short spurts, so I haven't put a lot of time into any of the above games.

                  Completed
                  • Bioshock

                  In The Queue
                  • Bioshock 2
                  • The Witcher 3
                  • Wolfenstein

I need to finish some of the Currently Playing games first.

                  Plan To Purchase
Ended up biting on Christmas sales for COD WW2 and F1. Now I'm done.

LOL'ing at all you guys who fell off the wagon hard on Black Friday. Maybe the 2018 thread should be titled "Pre-Black Friday 2018 Gaming Plans".

It's not you. The gaming landscape has simultaneously never been better and never been worse. For a sports game fan, it's never been worse IMO. I basically have no excitement for any game that's out or on the horizon (except RDR2, and who knows when that comes out?). No college sports of any kind and such limited/poor options for the pro sports has basically sucked all my gaming mojo down to nil.

Anyway, I only bought 1 game this year: NCAA14. Cleaned out some of my backlog. Pretty successful year, all-in-all.

For those of you on Xbox, they sent a 'yearly recap' of my gaming metrics (hours played, which games, which types of games, etc.) over the course of the year, and it's pretty interesting (albeit annoyingly intrusive...). For the first time, sports games were not #1 for me, which is right in line with how un-excited I am about the current sports gaming landscape.

My 2 most-played sports games: NCAA Football 14 and College Hoops 2K8.

I'd love to have that for PlayStation. Honestly, I wish games mandated time played statistics at the very least, either from the developer level or somehow diagnosed by the PS4 itself.

Yeah, it's actually pretty cool I must admit. Although sorta depressing at the same time (I spent like over a week of my life this year playing friggin' video games.... ).

                          Total: 198 Hrs
Most played month: July (that's a shame....)
                          Most played genre: RPG
                          Total Achievements: 95
                          Most played games:
                          1) Lost Odyssey (Xbox Live freebie)
                          2) Witcher 2 (Xbox Live freebie)
                          3) Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag (wow, really got my money's worth out of Xbox Live Games with Gold freebies this year....)
                          4) College Hoops 2K8
                          5) NCAA Football 2014

Apparently, I'm in the top 20% for achievements and top 1/3 for hours played for my region (US). Yay?

But I'm making no promises about not buying any new games this year. If Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out, it will be hard to resist....
Modest goals, pretty much achieved. Nothing much left in my backlog. Which means I could finally jump into the XB1/PS4 generation in good conscience, but honestly...there's nothing compelling me to make the move. Unless/until RDR2 comes out, I guess.
