Finishing Games...
How do you guys do it? I've bought several games over the last month or so and I have 'campaigns' going in all of them. How do you decide which game to power through before finishing another one?F-L-O-R-I-D-A! S-T-A-T-E! Florida State! Florida State! Florida State! Wooooo!Tags: None -

Maybe the one that brings you the most pleasure and satisfaction? Gaming is supposed to be a fun hobby, not a chore in which you tick boxes on a "To Do" list.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

Re: Finishing Games...
I normally just play one game at a time until completion. Currently, im playing Mafia III while im waiting for Resident Evil VII. Also, at the end of the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher III and up to where you see the solar system map in COD: IW. Both are on hold since im enjoying Mafia III and it's the perfect Ubisoft type open world game for me. Hope to finish this and COD: IW before RE VII.
At one point, I had Killzone: Shadow Fall, Doom, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Rise of the Tomb Raider for PS4, Watch Dogs 2, Mafia III and COD: IW all at the same time.
Got behind because I was waiting to play the majority of the games on PS4 PRO so for some games, I was over a month behind to start. Thankfully, im getting there. Doom, TF2, BF1 are done and gone. ROTTR is a wait and see. Already played it at launch for Xbox One so it's at the bottom of my list. Killzone: Shadow Fall is right behind it.
Once I finish off Mafia III and COD: IW, the only somewhat current game will be Watch Dogs 2 which I'll get to eventually. And crap, I just looked up and saw another game. Ratchet and Clank. Damn it all to hell!!! LOL.
My goal for gaming in 2017 is to go into 2018 without a backlog period. We'll see if I accomplish that goal. LOL.Comment

Re: Finishing Games...
Shoot my backlog includes games that came out 2 years ago.Still want to finish Killzone Shadow Fall but just like a review I read before buying it stated, "it's a fun game but after you're done you likely won't go back to it." I'm not even done and I can see that happening. Ha

Re: Finishing Games...
I have struggled with this over the years but I've forced myself to not buy so many games at launch. Now, I can play games at my pace and by the time I'm done with it, the other games are now 30 bucks cheaper. There are exceptions though, for games like red dead redemption 2 or the last of us 2, you best believe I'm buying those day 1.
I used to buy every game I was remotely interested in at launch and find myself getting halfway through before a new game launches.

Re: Finishing Games...
See, coming in I had a plan. First I wanted games with a cover system so I bought some. Then I came here and found out about TF2 and some other good games. I wasn't into a marine out fighting demons from hell then I tried the DOOM demo. Purchased. Kept seeing Metro mentioned in thread about good campaigns and read a little blurb from an interview with the Dev on HUD-less gameplay and immersion so purchased Metro Redux yesterday.
Looks like it's impossible to nail down one type of game that you like and only buy those without missing out on something you love but didn't know it....Like Inside. And now I want The Last Guardian. LOLF-L-O-R-I-D-A! S-T-A-T-E! Florida State! Florida State! Florida State! Wooooo!Comment

Re: Finishing Games...
For me.....I'm refusing to upgrade my hard drive. More space means more games to buy then, sit around.
Just completed Uncharted 4 so that gives me space for a narrative game to play. Going to play Inside 1st, which should be quick and then continue to another game.
I'll finish my baseball, football, and basketball seasons this year. The online-shooters like War Thunder, Battlefield 1, Battlefront 3, and The Division are already taking massive space but will remain in the lineup until something better knocks any of them off.Comment

Re: Finishing Games...
Really just kinda depends on if I can get into a game or not.
Played Fallout 4 for maybe 5 or 6 hours and traded it in. Got Final Fantasy XV a couple weeks ago, and logged 45 hours in a week and a half and beat it.
Just all about whether a game sucks me in enough to where I can't get my mind off it until I complete it.

Re: Finishing Games...
I had the same problem last generation - buy a bunch of games together and try each one for an hour or so and while I might finish one, I would likely ignore and dismiss the rest leaving them unfinished. Doing that now would be even worse since I play games a lot less now but can still get in up to 10 hours per week.
Since getting an Xbox One in January 2015 I have been restricting myself to playing ONE game per month with the intention of finishing it by the last day of that month - either in terms of finishing the story and/or getting as many Achievements as possible. The only time I go beyond that one month restriction is if the game is very long in which case I play it until the end of the next month - I spent 2 months playing The Witcher 3 (plus another month sometime last year for all the DLC) and 3 full months playing Fallout 4.
This is my tentative schedule for 2017 so far:
January = Watch_Dogs 2
February = Rocket League
March = Forza Horizon 3*
April = Fallout 4 DLC
May = Mad Max*
June & July = Mass Effect Andromeda
August = Assassin's Creed Syndicate*
September = South Park: The Fractured But Whole
October = FIFA 2018
November = NBA 2K18
December = Madden NFL 2018
* = games I've already bought but still keen to play...I just keep them sealed
With the sports games, I usually just play a season in FIFA and Madden NFL, while for NBA 2K I just play the MyCareer mode and try to get as far as I can in my rookie season. Of course it helps that I don't play online games at all so I don't get distracted by online friends wanting to play. But I do like Achievements so if I finish the story early within that month, I spend the rest of that month trying to get close to the 1000 as possible.
I admit the above is a bit OCD...but it helps me finish games and also curbs my spendingComment

Re: Finishing Games...
Majority of games I can beat in a few days......Some games I can beat in a day. I just start a campaign and just roll with it. I don't rush, don't power through. I just play it. I'm not a 100% complete type of guy either. Don't care about trophies and all that extra fluff.Comment

Yeah, don't care about trophies and achievements either. With reduced gaming time due to a now 8 month old, I couldn't pound out a game in a day unless he was with mommy at the in-laws overnight which has only happened once. Lol Looks like I've got a lot of great games in my backlog with no time table on completion. I just need to pick one and ONLY play it until it's done. Seems like every time I get a new one I think, "This is the one I'll finish" lol Bioshock Collection is the latest but I seriously might just power through Bioshock 1 before playing anything else. Says the guy who's picking up Ratchet & Clank tomorrow afternoon. [emoji1]

Re: Finishing Games...
Yeah you just need to stick to one game and finish it before you play something else. Your way, you will always have a backlog due to the fact games come out every week and at least a high quality good game comes out every other week during certain times of the year.
Once I'm hooked on a story, that story and what happens next is all I care about. I treat it the same way I treat movies. I want to finish the movie. Don't want to watch a part of a movie, then start watching another movie, watch a part of that and go on to a 3rd movie. I couldn't enjoy the game playing games that way.Comment

Yep! Totally enjoying Bioshock 1's story right now so I'll blow through that. Gotta work my way back to Wolfenstein: The New Order that I abandoned as I got more games! [emoji1]
