Vikings Wolves of Midgard (Diablo like PS4 game)

I saw this on the Playstation Blog and about lost my mind, looks crazy fun and like a huge Diablo rip-off but with Vikings...I was so hugely disappointed though to find out there is no LOCAL co-op...what??

How can they get online co-op in and not allow us to play co-op locally? So disappointed, I was ready to buy this immediately for pre-release until I read that.

Does anyone who may know more about this title know if they might be adding this via a patch or something near release?

Heill ok sæll, PlayStation fans! Some of you may remember the announcement of Vikings -- Wolves of Midgard back in June 2015, and I'm here today to share new, fresh details. Firstly, we're excited to announce that the wait is almost over as Vikings -- Wolves of Midgard will launch March 28 on PS4.

What a shameless ripoff lol, the inventory screen/blacksmith screens are identical to Diablo. I'm tentative if I'd ever buy this or just stick to Diablo, I still have an occasional marathon on that game.

Whatever you do, please do not buy this game. Gameplay is slow, yet it lags (yes, lags in Single player on PS4!). All the areas are basically standard (no randomization like Diablo) and all enemy encounters & loot drops are standard/scripted as well. Graphics are good, skill trees are decent, but fighting is slow &, well, the lag will frustrate you.

Oh, and the bugs. Lets see. I've had things disappear from Inventory, I sold one thing, yet it took another (something I had equipped), and then I had my character just stop moving, for no apparent reason. Completely non-responsive. Sat there and died. It was awesome...

Vikings feels like a $20 PSN game, NOT like a full title release. Sony really let us down letting this be released as a full game. I feel completely ripped off.

wow, that's awful, yeah I just looked at this again yesterday but the lack of couch co-op killed that idea for me. and then i read on twitter that the devs apparently say it will never be added. which further killed any interest completely. thankfully after reading what you wrote too it looks..

I preordered when I saw it on Amazon awhile back and forgot about it. At the time I ordered, I thought it was the follow-up to Vikings: Battle for Asgard. It is not.

No CGI cutscenes, no moving art, just some VO work with a blank piece of paper and the words being spoken between levels. So game play is all it has to hang it's hat on, and well, after playing Diablo, Van Helsing, Marvel Heroes, and Torchlight, the gameplay just doesn't measure up. The game seriously feels like a college project that someone turned into a game.

None of the major gaming sites have reviewed it yet. I rarely regret an order, but I greatly regret this one. It's a $20 value at best, and that's only if you really want to play a new action-rpg.

The way the devs talk to people ok Twitter and their forums also turned me off too..they seem arrogant and rude

This game should be like Helldivers and other isometric games with 4 player couch coop. How does it not have that? No chance I get this game without it.

Re: Vikings Wolves of Midgard (Diablo like PS4 game)

I've had a different experience than the one above. I'm enjoying the game. It's not quite as polished as Diablo and definitely not as good as Diablo, but I feel it is a solid action rpg. Maybe I am lucky, but I haven't experienced any bugs in my 6 hours of play time. The graphics are good and the game feels smooth enough to me. I have only experienced a few small hitches to the frame rate but it has been solid for the most part.

I totally get those not buying it because of the lack of couch co op and I think it's crazy they only included online co op. But if you want a solid alternative to Diablo and the lack of couch co op doesn't bother you, then I believe this is it.

You're lucky on the bug front. I get some bugs here and there, but when inventory is not being taken out based on the one I have selected, that's a pretty basic bug and when my character just stops and non-responsive, that's another that should have been found. No excuse for those on a game where both are a core, constantly used, feature.

Game feels more like Titan Quest than Diablo. Few monsters, mostly 1 at a time, in some spots 2 or 3 at a time, and rarely up to 5 or 6 (usually with a boss). Gameplay is pretty slow, but dodging mechanism does work, so that's a plus. Long cool downs on powers too, so they are used minimally. The rage feature is nice, but I'm not sold on the health mechanism.

The exposure feature drives me batty. Basically if in cold weather, when you move away from a fire, your exposure bar starts filling. You must get back to a fire before it's full, less you start taking damage that will ultimately kill you. This wouldn't be a bad feature if they had provided 'any' form of a movement / travel power. Instead, you have to make the slow, steady trod, back to a fire, and then once the exposure meter is lowered, head to the next spot. It makes for a lot of unnecessary, and completely boring, backtracking. Not sure how they thought they added 'fun' to the game.

Drag66 - One other thing, and I'm not sure if it's yet another bug I've been allowed to enjoy, or just the way the game works. I quit my first game, and came back, and ALL my progress on the game was lost. There was no way to continue, but my character was still level 3 which is what it was before I turned off the game. While googling another issue, I read a post that said the game doesn't save your state, and you have to start each game session new, but supposedly it's not too bad because there's only about 12 hours of gameplay (thus no big loss...). I've been too scared to turn the game off again. Have you quit/started a game yet? Did it save your place in the game such that you could restart again?

UPDATE: Left the game running today and switched to watch TV (generally I choose to go into power save mode in PS4 when I switch over). Seems the PS4 crashed and had to do an emergency recovery. Never had this happen before from a game, only power losses. In any event, after the game crashed the PS4, when I restarted it, there was an option to 'continue' this time. It wasn't there before. Still lost progress (had to redo all selling/buying in town again), but at least it wasn't a forced complete restart like last time.

The exposure feature is definitely unnecessary and I'm not sure why they added it. I've quit and started again the next day 3 separate times and the option to continue has been there each time. I haven't lost any progress. Now that I've totally jinxed myself, I'm sure tomorrow I will have the same bugs you've experienced lol.

Hey, $20 gets you some great value games.

Trying to drudge through this game since I already paid full price. Just froze up on me again, in the 5th (final wave) of the 'Trial of the Gods'. Character become frozen in place. Could use no powers, could not attack. Only thing I could do was heal, just like last time. So you can prolong the time before the game kills you, but not stop it. How does something like this make it into a production build / release title?

Just read this on the Steam Wolves review page - After you finish a game, you get to do a new game+, where you keep your skill trees/levels, but you lose all of your gear. Apparently that's 'by design'. Supposedly after you finish that one, and you start a game++, you get to keep your gear on that go around. However, the gamers said you can't adjust the difficulty and at that point the game is too easy and pointless to play.
