Sudden Strike 4 (PS4, PC, Mac, Linux)

Gauging those who may be interested since this will not have cross-platform play. Sudden Strike 4 now has a June 27, 2017 release date. The game will support single and multi-player campaigns.

Sudden Strike 4 sends you off on three extensive campaigns set among the battlefields of World War 2. Commanding the British and American, German or Soviet troops, you will lead over 100 different units into battle like the German bomber Henkel He111, the Russian T-34 tank, the British Hawker Typhoon fighter plane and the notorious German VI Tiger. In a first for the Sudden Strike series, you can now choose from one of nine individual commanders, such as George Patton or Bernard Montgomery, who will each allow for different approaches to combat and boast unique abilities.

Set in the Second World War, this real-time strategy game aims to recreate historically accurate battles, using authentic units and weapons along with real commanding generals. In addition, fans of Sudden Strike will be happy to hear that SS4 is an entirely new entry in the series - with Kite Games having completely ignored SS3. Instead, the developer has looked back to SS and SS2 for inspiration for their new game whilst modernizing and improving the experience."

Not a big fan of RTS games, but this one has my attention. Depending on what price is launches at, I may pick it up on release day. If not then I'll wait for it to go down in price.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

59.99 on Amazon with 20% off.

I will wait. This type of game drops quick. This is a pure niche market game....40 somethings like us who played RTS war games for years on PC’s in the 90’s.

            I will definitely be waiting.

I was thinking it may release with a $40 price tag which would've at least had me checking out reviews. But a $60 price tag means that I'll wait until it hits the bargain bin.

Yea, the $60 price tag is rough, especially since the PC version is half that price. Will table this, and Uncharted 4: Lost Legacy into the bargain bin too. I'll definitely read the reviews.

Re: Sudden Strike 4 (PS4, PC, Mac, Linux)

I had high hopes that KITE Games would deliver an epic RTS WW2 game after the previous debacles of Fireglow. Reviews for the PC are coming out, and it doesn't look so grand. Even though there is so much potential here, the shoddy AI will kill it for me. Unless there's a patch or you can accept it's faults, sounds more frustrating than not.

                Here are a couple of reviews;

Sudden Strike 4 is a sound tactical game with a great depth of units and tactical options. It is, however, let down by limited AI which leaves missions feeling more like set problems to solve rather than dynamic battlefields, limiting any replay value.

                Pros

                * Excellent levels of realism for units and battlefields makes for a impressively atmospheric strategy game
                * Highly interactive environment, from crop fields to rubble strewn across the map enhances tactical opportunities
                * The new doctrines system offer a level of customisation, letting you specialise and improve specific unit types

                Cons

                * Poor AI leads to frustration with your own troops as well as missions that are more problem-solving than dynamic battlefields. This leads to little, if any replay value outside of multiplayer and skirmish due to the fairly rigid missions
                * Minor issues permeate the game, from tanks that allow bullets to pass through them to repair and supply trucks that won't do their jobs unless forced
                * While the doctrines system is good, the points you earn for the stars in a level is complete obfuscated and utterly unresponsive until you hit the hidden arbitrary number required

Kite Games, with Sudden Strike 4, looks to return the franchise to it's roots and bring back one of the best real-time tactics series.

Online multiplayer skirmishes can be more entertaining than the campaign due to a leveled playing field. They are simply that, though – bare-bones one-off skirmishes.

Sudden Strike 4’s issues are a real downer, as they get in the way of what is an otherwise well put-together challenge. Some impressive detail regarding the things that you can do – holing up in a house to launch a surprise attack, for example, or leading enemies into trouble by using a faster vehicle as a decoy – means that the game must go out of its way to stop you from being able to just walk through it using every old trick in the book. The development team has gotten that side of things right so if you can see past the barriers that sit in between you devising a tactic and actually getting the game to carry it out, you’re in for a moreish test for the old grey matter. The greater likelihood though, is that confusion and frustration will kick in before the addiction does.
