Question with preface: I've loved the series since the revamp with 3, but the world has has always felt sort of empty and the people and places in it shallow and generic.

Does Far Cry 5 feel a little bit more "alive" and its locales and npc's more meaningful than in 3 and 4?

More alive than any FarCry I can remember playing......but I didn't play 4 or primal

Either quit your game after a save and it takes you to the main menu where you can select arcade, or find an arcade machine in the map, there are a bunch of them.

4 was basically the same as 3. If it's improved on 3 that's a big positive.

Far Cry 5

First impressions after about two hours:

Keep in mind I have never played a Far Cry game before.

First of all, the game is gorgeous. It’s probably the best looking game I have played and this is on the original Xbox One in the bedroom (I suspect I will be blown away when I use the living room TV and the One X).

The story so far has kept me intrigued and I’m excited to see where they take it. The intro was wild and the main villain is a lunatic.

The gameplay has been really fun so far and I suspect it will get even better once I get more weapons and gear. So far, cash seems a little hard to come by, but that could change. A few things I’m not a fan of is the field of view seems zoomed in too far for my liking. Is this something I can change in the settings on the game? I briefly looked but didn’t see anything. Also, it seems like enemies attack you too much while exploring and minding your own business. I feel like I’m constantly getting shot at by guys in vehicles and in the woods. And lastly, I’m not a fan of the driving mechanics.

Overall, I’m very happy with the game thus far and excited to get back to it tomorrow.

Friend and I jumped right in as soon as we could for Co op and loved every minute of it. This is basically my first Far Cry game, only played a few minutes of 2 or 3 when they first game out.... may have even been trying a demo but I'm glad I bought this one. The driving I'm could be much better but it's still fun. Have it on Xbox X and the game looks so good. Matter of fact I believe this is the first game I've ever played where I need shades during the day, damn that sun light is bright. Can't wait to get into it later today.

I played pretty much from the time I got home from work yesterday until I went to bed. I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Pros:
- absolutely gorgeous graphics
- Gameplay is improved over previous editions. Guns feel like they have weight and there is enough recoil to justify switching to single or burst fire mode in certain situations
- even minor characters seem to be better developed and more interesting
- flying a plane is really fun

Cons:
- There's an AI respawn issue that i'm sure will be addressed by a patch at some point
- The dark, creepy and desperate atmosphere created in the intro doesn't really carry over once you get past the tutorial island. I guess that had to happen in order for the game to be more fun & open, but I had hoped to keep that feeling going... a lot of what you do feels kind of inconsequential
- really thought there would be more weapon variety. Customization options are cool and welcomed, but I would've liked more base gun options
- your "fangs for hire" cannot ride in your vehicle with you

Overall it's a great game and might be my favorite of the series, but there's some room for inprovement. I'm excited to kill off the Seeds and get into making my own scenarios in FC Arcade.

Agreed! Very disappointed by the lack of guns.

I would have figured guns from FC3 and FC4 would have been in this game.

Ubisoft forums are pissed about lack of guns as well.

Didnt they say this would be the largest selection ever?

Buying this SOB today, but your comment and Flawless' makes me worried because that's my #1 pet peeve. After reading comments about how awesome arcade is, I'm thinking I can side-step it to some degree, and I believe they will patch it to make it better. I don't think anyone likes respawns that happen to fast and in my case I don't really like it at all. In FC4 you had your guys 'take-over' an area so you'd never get shot at again from that location unless you lost it. The maps are so huge and so much to explore, there is no reason to have enemies spawning in the same spot over and over.
