the ability to go right into an expedition now instead of having to walk all the way back to your javelin is a nice improvement.

This is easily my favorite thing about the update.

Found this statue flying around. It is another statue in around the same area with a javelin holding a sword.

Pardon my ignorance, but this is strictly PvE/co-op, right? Is that the best way to describe it? No PvP?

How's the matchmaking and grouping with friends, intuitive?

No pvp, can party up and someone can control the missions everyone enters, with matchmaking filling in the text of the party.

Campaign is hard to co-op though if someone wants to hear all the lore. A dozen or so voice-acted NPCs ready to tell you their problems that reward reputation typically for taking to them .

I see ..so it's more of a solo venture that you go through missions with others? So is it "co-op" at all? As in playing with the same friend(s) throughout the game.

I went through the whole campaign and never played a mission solo. Always matched up with 3 others.


I never matched up until the missions though. I was solo when I did all of the stuff at the fort.

You could play through the whole game with the same 3 people if you wanted. The matchmaking system is identical to the division. Not sure that helps you out or not.

Yeah, I never had to do a mission solo, and if everyone's into it all the lore isn't as big of a deal as I suggested either.

For example, a week or two ago I got 2 people to give it a shot. One wasn't as interested and was alt-tabbed for 10-12 minutes at a time between missions as the guy selecting missions was running around and listening to all of the lore and stuff not realizing all he had to do was talk to the main NPCs and advance the story. This repeated all night, and we probably ran 1/3 of the missions we could have if we just ran dungeons (strongholds) and quick matches.

Quick matches in this (when they work) are fantastic. Basically you opt into a pool to reinforce incomplete and forming groups. So for people who are creating missions solo, you are the one who comes in and fills out the rest of their group.

The 'when they work' bit is referring to some of the bugs that are still being ironed out. Some missions occasionally fail to progress, something doesn't spawn, etc. As people leave the group is still backfilled w/ quick match folks. This has been less frequent lately thankfully.

The only annoying thing with quick matches for me is when I end up in a match that is doing a story mission with long *** cut scenes I’ve already seen. There is one mission in particular I wish they would patch out of quick play. They did just add a “quick play - strongholds” option so that might do the trick for now.

My plan is to enjoy this game for the rest of the week and get all 4 of my javs to a respectable power level and loot situation. Then come Friday I’ll give it a break and let the devs do their thing for a month or so and move onto the division 2 until April.

All in all I’ll I think I’ll get 70-80 hours out of the game before I hit the initial end game/boredom wall of just grinding the same missions over and for a marginal increase in gear. For a new IP of this type that is fine for me. I look forward to seeing what it looks like a month or so from now when I come back to it.

I matched up with three randoms for entire main story missions. Did not use a mic eother. Reason was because I wanted to get into the story as much as possible. I even read a lot of things.

If I joined up and we're call talking in a party, I miss all the dialogue from the NPCs telling the story.

I did the first 5 or 6 missions solo. After that the number of enemies became way too many, so that is when I started grouping up with randoms. Had the game beaten in a couple of days way before the general release date. Randoms aren't that bad in this game, at least on the PC they are not.

Did a fort mission last night because I haven't done one in over a week. They dropped me in right at the end of the mission for the boss fight. I was like damn. I was cool with it though because honestly doing these same forts over and over again do get boring, so I cool that I got to skip all the earlier areas.
