    Saving...

What do you do/prefer, manual or auto save? I think saving only via auto save adds something to the game. Take Thief for instance... I only save when the games auto saves after an objective or when I get to closet which automatically performs a save when you enter one.

    Re: Saving...

Depends on the game. So many games now save after every single action, so I don't even focus on it. Other games like OOTP or Cities Skylines save only ever so often, so I do multiple manual saves for backups and whatnot since the progress made in those games requires so much work.

I prefer games save constantly, all the time.

Even if a game auto saves for me, I always manually save or keep two saves(If I'm given that option). Force of habit from memory card days and cartridges.

I prefer frequent manual saves. Just a precautionary thing.

            Re: Saving...

The last game I played without auto-save was Pokémon Moon and the lack of auto-save in that game cost me so much progress so many times. Left me with a very bad taste in my mouth.

I unquestionably prefer auto-save, and speaking as someone who has been building autosave functionality into his own games since 2010 it's inexcusable for mobile / portable games in particular to not offer auto-save as an option IMO.

Breath of the Wild does it perfectly, imo. You can manual save anywhere and the game does frequent auto saves, and gives you several different save points to choose from, which is great if you feel like backtracking a little or just want to pick up exactly where you left off.

                Re: Saving...

Auto save preferably the setup that The Witcher III uses. Not only will the game auto save when you complete a quest, contract, etc. but also saves multiple files that are decently spread out in play time so if you screw up something like a certain dialogue choice, you can reload that slightly older save file. It also has manual saves for those who prefer doing that. My favorite though is being able to select how often the game auto saves for you. In addition to auto saving when completing a quest, etc., the game has an option for auto saving in general in regards to how long the gaps are between auto saves. I always had the game setup at 10 minute intervals so the most progress that I could ever lose would be 10 minutes. Every game should have all these options. Just a few more reasons why The Witcher III is the best overall game this generation and the best RPG this generation.

Save early and often. Autosave. Cloud save. More options the the better.

I can't tell you how many save games I've lost over the years and how many times I've had corrupted save files or corrupted hard drives. I could write a book.
