Re: Yakuza 6
How are people enjoying the game? Any comparisons to other series to give me an idea of what it's like?
I've never played the Yakuza series before, but it keeps sitting there calling to me every time I go into the PS Store and I have been tempted to pre-order it nearly every day for the past month despite having never played it before and only having a couple videos to gain an understanding of what the gameplay is like.Comment

If you want to get into the series, the best starting point is Yakuza 0. As it is a prequel set in 1988.
As far as comparisons go the closest comparison to this game is Sleeping Dogs but Yakuza is a much more hand to hand combat focused game with tons more culture. The storytelling is up there with the best in gaming history. Gameplay is superb, no other action brawler game can come close to Yakuza in terms of combat. The amount of content the game has to offer will keep you hooked for 50-100 hours. That Jumpshot Fix Guy

Re: Yakuza 6
It's a shame that we haven't gotten a follow up to Sleeping Dogs yet. That was a great game.
I finally got Yakuza the other day and have gotten to put a decent amount of time into it. It feels so good to dive back into this world-- finally. The first 45 minutes to an hour was a bit slow, but it was necessary to build up the story. Once I got past that, things picked up very quickly. I'm just going to mention a handful of things that stuck out to me during my time with the game so far:
1. These graphics are insane; the series has never looked better. Yakuza 0 wasn't a bad looking game by any stretch of the imagination, but they really kicked things up a little bit. The environments pop, and when they flashed back to Hakura's concert scene from Yakuza 5, it was really a "whoa" moment for me to see where we are now.
2. The fighting engine is very nice. I didn't mind the multiple styles of Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, but I generally only tended to switch when necessary, or just for the hell of it. I much prefer the streamlining of what they've done here. The fighting feels great and some of these slow motions sequences are insane.
3. Adíos to phone booths. Autosave for life.
4. The menus are clean. I especially like the marking system and how it looks when you order food now. These are little things, but it makes the game more enjoyable.
I'm already invested in the story, this looks like it's shaping up to be another great ride. Hopefully, this does well and more people continue to get familiar with this series.Comment

One of the more underappreciated aspect of this game is, the OST is absolutely amazing. I love the music in normal fights and the OST in theSpoilerSaio TriadThat Jumpshot Fix Guy

Re: Yakuza 6
Agreed. The way they enhance conversations and build up to the climax of the battles with music is always so well done. Some Yakuza thug will say some wild ****, Kiryu will give a look, then the music starts thumping and you know it's about to go down. Good call on that.Last edited by Pappy Knuckles; 04-22-2018, 05:13 PM.Comment

Re: Yakuza 6
I finally sat down and marathoned through the rest of the game last night. Those last few chapters were INSANE! When "End" finally showed up on my screen, I sat there for a little bit just processing everything. The narratives are always solid in these games, but I thought the payoff at the end of this Yakuza was especially good.
Spoiler
Some of my favorite moments in the game:
1. The first "real" showdown with Ed. That part where you're fighting on the beam was ridiculously cool. Ed was just a sweet character in general, I loved his inclusion.
2. Nagumo punching, kicking, and generally beating the **** out of all of his Hirose family. Nagumo was such a hilarious character. He was dumb as hell most of the game, along with being ultra-reactive and emotional, but it was hard not to love the guy. He wears his emotions on his sleeve.
3. The entire scene with Joon-gi Han in Stardust. The dialogue was top tier and Joon-gi Han was a very memorable character in general. Just a well-done section of the game here.
4. Baby football. 'Nuff said.
5. Heizo Iwami & Tsuneo Iwami. These guys both deserve mentioning because they were absolutely ruthless! Heizo would do anything to keep the secret hidden... I mean anything. When he shot Hirose I blurted out "holy ****" to myself. That was such a crazy scene. Plus, Heizo was just a cool looking old man, that added a lot to him.
I think Tsuneo was even more of a savage just because of how he went about his business, both physically and from a broader perspective. The scenes where he had Kiyomi captured and the final showdown were both very telling about how he was wired. Great characters.
6. Kiryu sending Yuta flying through the glass. The kid had it coming. Man up, boy.
7. Now that I've mentioned it, let me expand on the final showdown for a second. They gave Kiryu absolute hell in that scene. I know that he shrugged off what felt like 10 shots with a metal pipe, but even still -- my goodness! Then he took several bullets on top of it as icing on the cake. Wow.
I won't lie, they almost had me going for a few moments believing he was dead. In the back of my mind I was thinking, "no way this is possible", but at the same time, I started running scenarios in my head. I like Diago, Saejima, and Majima, but Yakuza wouldn't be the same without Kiryu being the focus. Fortunately, they wrapped things up for us in the end. What a phenomenal way to end the game.
8. The squad walk to Millennium tower near the end of the game was absolutely badass. I don't think they get enough credit about the camera work in these games because there are always so many absolutely amazing shots.
During this scene, some thug off to the side motioned his hand like a gun and pointed at them, and it was so perfect. Little stuff like that goes a long way with me. As far as that section itself, the helicopter fight was especially well done. The glass breaking and Kiryu running to avoid the bullets looked amazing.
9. Hirose was a very intriguing man and it was a wild ride to finally learn his story and motivations. I liked that in the end, his family still had love for him and understood why he did the things he did. The fight against him on the ship was pretty badass too. I loved the whole smoke section. I appreciated how he never really raised his voice above a whisper. It really fit his whole persona and it was a good choice.
There's a lot more I can say about this game, but I just wanted to highlight a few things while it was fresh on my mind. Now the wait for Kiwami 2. I haven't played that one at all, so I'm very excited. Only a few months to go.Last edited by Pappy Knuckles; 05-22-2018, 08:11 AM.Comment
