A retailer listing for a Game of Thrones title from Bethesda looks to not be the real deal.

With all the plotting, strategizing, big battles, etc. that take place in GOT I would think this game would be better suited as a RTS (ex:Rome Total War)..
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

I don't personally see how Bethesda is the ideal company to have a good GoT game. I think people are caught up in the setting.

There is very little in the developers history to convince me that they have the ability to deliver what makes GoT great.

If it's just another story about a character from a lowly house that travels the continent while completing menial tasks for stone men or the Dothraki, I'll pass.

An open world GoT game needs a very complex system that actually shifts in real time based on the actions of characters we control and do not control.

Love Thrones, but I'm not all that enthusiastic about Bethesda getting the license if this is legit.

A convoluted narrative driven by convincing character drama and development. I don't see Bethesda coming close to that.

Honestly, I'm torn if I want to play as a "random" character aligned with one of the houses or as one of the main characters.

Id love if they did something like pick the game up where the story (show) left off. Like depending on what happens in the last 6 episodes, pick up there, in flea bottom/winterfell, whatever, with a whole new set of things happening. This would give them creative freedom, and also we get all the settings of the books/show, and some of the characters potentially. A GTA/The witcher/horizon zero dawn type game would be awesome with the game of thrones world as the backdrop

                            Re: Bethesda Game of Thrones?

Something no one seems to be talking about is the possibility of this being some kind of online game. I know that Bethesda Game Studios (not Zenimax) has never done an online game or even had a major multiplayer component in one of their triple-a titles. But they've talked about doing it on many occasions.

Add the fact that last year BGS was hiring people with experience in multiplayer for a "triple-a, freemium game," and this could very well be what we have.

Bethesda Game Studios is on record (both Pete Hines and Todd Howard) saying that there are still "two major projects," before we see The Elder Scrolls VI. And that they are "different than anything they've ever done before while still being a Bethesda-style game."

The two games have to be 1) Starfield and 2) Game of Thrones. With those in mind they could very well be BGS' foray into the world of multiplayer.

That Target Listing For A Bethesda 'Game Of Thrones' Game Was a Hoax

Here's the official statement from a Target Spokesman:

“This is not a real product – we’re sorry for any confusion.”

That doesn't leave a lot of room for interpretation. It is possible to spoof URLs, and it would not be surprising if that's what happened here.

There were two things that made this listing seem suspect. First, it was clearly neither a real listing nor a placeholder listing. Retail leaks happen because retailers have information before the press or public do, but they're fairly specific because of it. A lot of the time, you'll see the full, genuine listing going up before quickly being taken down. This wasn't that: it was just this single phrase. But that phrase also didn't look like a placeholder. Any retailer would at the very least know the name of the product in advance of putting a listing up, and it wouldn't be all that concerned about a game before there was an actual name attached to it. The second would be how long this page stayed up: genuine leaks are usually taken down fairly quickly.

Also, there's another Target listing for "Rockstar: Game of Thrones." Which, as much as we'd like to see it, is even less likely to be happening than a Bethesda Game of Thrones game.
