This is a hard one. Just thinking about all the FPS games I've played in over 20 years of gaming, I'm surprised to realize how few were truly memorable without their multiplayer component. Even before you could start playing games online, something like Goldeneye is memorable primarily because of the 2-4 players versus mode.

I'd probably go with F.E.A.R

DOOM (2016) is my favorite pure shooter.

It's such a white-knuckle affair on higher difficulties. The Mick Gordon soundtrack starts rippin, demons are pouring in at overwhelming odds, chaos is ensuing, constant movement, switching weapons, managing your health, armor, ammo, and the resources that are lying around. There's nothing quite like it.

Runner up would be F.E.A.R. and my favorite hybrid shooter is probably System Shock 2.

I tell ya. I downloaded Black. It's an old ps2-xbox game that you can now play on Xbox one. That game is still magnificent. Def in my top 3.

Portal 2 is probably my favorite. I thought the puzzles, pacing and story were fantastic and I didn't play it until a few years ago. FPS is my favorite genre and I've played almost all of them but Portal 2 was such a dizzying fun experience that it surpassed the original Half-Life for me.

For me, it's Unreal Tournament '99-Game of the Year Edition. Nothing comes close, not even DOOM. I'm still rocking it to this day.

2nd place isn't very close. Some Turok game back then was neat as well.
