    Need help re-formatting PS2 HDD

I'm tryna ditch Final Fantasy XI and I read that you cant use another PS2 unless you re-format the hard drive and the new user can reinstall the software onto his PS2.

So what I'm asking is: what is re-formatting a hard drive and how would I go about doing it? I have a HDD utility disc that came with the HDD. What process should I use so I wont damage anything. I know the game has registration codes and whatnot, so how do I go about resetting them or transferring them to another PS2? Anybody have any idea how to get around all this red tape.

On another note, what was Sony and Square-enix thinking for making the HDD and game so utterly useless. Would if my PS2 broke and I brought a new one? Would if I wanted to bring the game over another persons house? Meh.....its like they told you to buy the damn thing and now you're stuck with it for life. I'm not gonna short change the new owner so I want to correct this problem before I ship it off.

reformatting the HD just means wiping all the information on it, returning it to the empty factory delivered format.

I have absolutely no experience with the PS2 HD, so all I'd suggest is that somewhere in the instructions it should mention this. Otherwise check out some other forums, people probably know. I just doubt that a ton of people here actually have the HDD for the PS2

Ok, so formatting the HDD will return it to its original factory format? Ok, sounds simple enough. I did'nt know what formatting was until you told me. I've been looking all over the net and I have'nt found any info as to go about formatting the PS2 HDD. Everyone else is using a non-Sony Hard Drive and other various programs. I e-mailed Square-Enix and I'm not gonna hold my breath for they're reply.

I just did'nt want to currupt any data before I sent it out. If all I got to do is uninstall FF XI and the rest of my stored files, then format the drive, then why was this info so hard to find?

Also, there seems to be a problem with the registration codes that came with the game. If I delete all of my saved data, do you think I'll be able to re-use those same registration codes?

Sony, Square-enix and Play Online can suck fat monkey balls. There was no usefull info on none of thos sites for the Hard Drive. I think thats BS because now I gotta go through all sorts of research and questioning to find my answers. Did they think nobody would ever sell this game? Or have to switch PS2s?

BTW, thanks for the help. This Hard Drive business is frustrating me.
