I had the original on Dreamcast, and while I remember being super excited about it, I recall being incredibly bored with the game and basically giving up pretty quickly on it. I think I thought there would be more action/fighting, and 90% of the game is walking around talking to people. I'm wondering now if I should give it another chance, though, since I know what to expect going in. I dunno...so many games, so little time...

Re: Shenmue I & II remaster.
Yeah, I think if you know going in that it's not exactly an action-packed game and more of a slow, meditative stroll, it helps adjust expectations. I got so bored of just walking around talking to people (and the voice acting drove me nuts), I think in the entire time I tooled around with the game, I got into 1 minor skirmish, and even that was a quicktime event that was over so fast I didn't even grasp what was happening.
Seeing as how the game started out life as a "Virtua Fighter" RPG (according to something I read somewhere once...may be wrong), I really thought there'd be more fighting. Basically, I was hoping for a better, more detailed version of "Jade Empire" - which, criminally, has been abandoned by BioWare as a unique IP. But it's just a totally different type of game.
I think if you know going in that it's more about walking around talking to people and interacting with the village, it might be more fun. I am generally more of an action-oriented person, so for me the whole pacing of the game didn't really work, but if I get a chance I'll give it another shot at some point.Comment

Re: Shenmue I & II remaster.
I remember it on the Dreamcast. I was both enthralled with the world and the detail, but certainly found it a little dull at times. Not necessarily because it wasn't action packed, but more load times and general clunkiness, and some dragging sequences of over-written dialogue. Overall though it was a really unique experience, and there was a lot of value in it being something different that was done really well.Comment

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Shenmue I & II remaster.
Picked it up last weekend, but I haven't been able to sink much time in it. They are 100% going with the nostalgia feel as the controls are every bit as heavy as they were on the Dreamcast This is both nice for the nostalgia feel, but also kind of disappointing. It's great to have that original feel, but I would not have complained if it was a little more smooth making Ryo turn.
I'm not very far into the game yet as I spent the first 20 minutes going around the house picking up all the 'hidden' items. Kind of amazed as I'm walking down the halls how I remember "oh yeah there is something behind this mural".Comment
