Without spoiling anything, NO you do not play as Liquid, Solid, Solidus, or any other. Raiden isn't in this game either. Snake Eater is a prequel to Metal Gears 1-2 and Metal Gear Solid 1-2.

Play on and you'll find out who you are controlling if you haven't yet.

So then why in the world do all the Metal Gear, snake all look the same. Anyway who are you supose to be in MGS2. Snake I hope. The funny thing is in MGS 3 when you start off you wearing a mask that looks like Radien, and you keep using it all game. Mayeb in Solid 2 when you play as radien your realy wearing a mask.

I think I made a mistake, I started the game playing On HARD level, I don't think I can change it now. The part I'm on right now is freakin hard. I'm still in the begining part of the game, It's just the part I'm at is crazy hard.

Clones of the big Boss, so they all look alike and all work for the govertment....Plus what does Radien have to do with it? Plus Metal Gear solid 2 takes place after MGS3 right....If so How did he have the Radien mask in MGS3. This is confusing a bit. Why coulnd't they make snake just one guy?

You weren't wearing a mask in MGS2 because you were helping Snake.

I'm tryin' not to look at a walkthrough on gamefaqs but I end up doing it all the time cuz some parts are confusing. Just tryin to get through the game right now, then get through the game on Hard. Gotta get all the frogs too :o

You have the mask in MGS 3 because the maker, Hideo Kojima, included it as a joke for fans since a lot of them hated Raiden in MGS 2. Now Raide, he was in MGS 2 as part of the S3 program (don't ask what it is, very confusing to explain) to see if the "Patriots" could mold a soldier to be like Solid Snake. If you want more info on this, head on over to Gamefaqs and into the MGS 3 board and look for a topic there which explains all that by a guy named solidsnakefan16. I understand that they're making a faq for this as we speak.

Now why couldn't they have just one Snake? Well originally, Big Boss had 8 clones but 5 of them were scrapped in order to focus on Solid, Liquid, and Solidus. They're clones of the "Greatest Soldier" alive, Big Boss and so, they're very capable killers. Why can't they only have one? Well that's up to the maker, Hideo Kojima but if we're following the story here, there is only one left at the end, Solid Snake since he lives on in MGS 2. Solidus died 'cause Raiden killed him in MGS 2, Liquid died in MGS 1 although his hand is a part of Ocelot in MGS 2 and can sometimes take-over his whole body. Confusing I know. Big Boss died in Metal Gear 2, leaving Solid Snake as the sole remaining Snake unless you count Liquid as living.

I hope that makes enough sense for you. That's why I love this series, so many of the things that happen in the games could actually be happening right now. Again, if you want more clarification into this, check out Gamefaqs and the MGS 3 message board there.
