    Islands of Nyne(BR) - PC

This came out yesterday and I couldn't pass it up. I was only able to get in 3 matches last night but so far it looks like a very fun BR game. Everything feels real tight, the hit detection feels good, and it carries a "halo-ish" type vibe but wrapped in a BR game mode.

I also picked up a win on my second match.

This weekend I'll be spending a lot more time with it!

I was going to pick this up today but ended up holding off. I read some first impressions online and watched a couple videos and people say it's very poorly optimized and stiff feeling. Tempted to buy it and use Steam's 2 hour refund feature but not too sure if I even want to do that.

Gun play feels really good, movement feels stiff in the sense it doesn't have vaulting but aside from that it feels as good as CS:GO or any pit style shooter. Hit Detection feels nice but it's a little early for me to say 100% it's great.

All in all in feels like a good arcade style BR game, it has some flaws with the looting feeling clumsy, and the servers being very hit or miss the first week. Outside of those minor issues, which I'd assume the online will become much more stable as we go along. It's a solid shooter without a doubt.

The first weekend is in the books for Islands of Nyne and I must admit, it was a blast! A very strong showing from a very early access title.

A collection of my kills over the weekend

I find myself being drawn to it over PUBG, mainly because there is just so much done right. The max game length is no longer than 15 min, the lobby is quick and your back into a game very fast, not having to rely on looting for 20+ min means your head is up playing for kills within 45 secs to 2 min, time to kill is way faster than expected and rewards headshots. Throw all that together with a good hit detection system and I've just found the engagements exciting.

Right now, my hopes is the play base grows and we get a couple more map designs (bigger map with more people would be nice). My only real complaint from a gameplay standpoint is the strafe, it is OP and highly utilized by everyone you will face. There is no transition from moving one direction to the next so the strafe is an instantaneous movement in the opposite direction, making some firefights frustrating when scoped in.

I think I'll do a full review of the game this weekend and really highlight all the pros and cons.

Saw you playing this the last couple days. I'm going to give it a good look when I get home.

Really enjoying the game so far! I can tell it isn't 100% optimized yet as I'm probably getting around 80-90FPS on average on low settings. Took me about 5 games to get my first kill lol. I find the learning curve was a bit difficult to get used to at first simply because the time to kill is very quick and I obviously don't know the map very well. Towards the end of my session I was starting to get the hang of the gunplay. Got this really nice headshot snipe during my last game. I hit a nice long range sniper shot to drop his shields. This shot was for the kill.

All in all really pumped to put some hours into this game. The only issues I find I have with the game currently is the spring activation is a bit annoying and the zones close to quickly. I understand wanting to keep the pace going but seems just a bit too quick.

Nice shot, projectile travel is much faster than you would expect also. It isn't hit scan but you don't need to lead much.

Yea the TTK is very fast and it was surprising to me also. I was expecting something closer to Halo for TTK and was shocked that it might be faster than PUBG.

The time between zones isn't but maybe 45 secs MAX, but it's balanced pretty good where if you start moving instantly when it says "Zone Paused" and the new circle is shown, you can always make it. Just remember you move much faster with the knife out, Slowest with snipers, and midspeed with SMGS & AR's. So when you need to outrun the circle, take that knife out.

I'm running it on high and I was getting around 60s, but after the patch I was getting 80s to 90s yesterday so it looks like throughout the year we will see it consistently get better.

Glad to see you grabbed it and enjoying it, hopefully we can get some duos in at some point this weekend!

I would definitely be down for some duos this weekend. In the short time I've played it I have to say I'm hooked. Gun play feels really good as does the movement. I also really like how the recoil is similar to CSGO where each gun has it's own predicable recoil pattern. I was fooling around in the training area and the AK47 pattern is very similar to CSGO. Thankfully I've played a lot of CSGO so controlling recoil is pretty much muscle memory for me at this point.

I think the devs have done a good job so far. I could never get into PUBG as I found it was really boring for me personally. But ION has a lot quicker of a pace and feels alot more of a competitive BR. There's no real randomness to it. It really comes down to ones skill.

Really glad I bought this game!

The gunplay looks very Crysis-ish to me which isn't a bad thing.

Honestly that's just the aesthetic of how the guns look, the sound design, and how the gun is turned during tab looting. It's exactly how Crysis turned the gun up and sideways for showing attachments.

Outside of the look, the gunplay from a gameplay perspective feels way more like Insurgency or any other hardcore shooter. The TTK is very fast and has 1 shot headshots, so from that angle it's nothing like Crysis.

I was going to include these in a highlight video but check it out. All 3 of these shots were planned and timed. This is what this game does well, it rewards skillful gunplay over campy tactics like PUBG.

                            1) Had to locate where shots were coming from, tiny speck of head shown and I nail the head tap.

                            2) Waited for him to walk into headshot

                            3) One of my favorite sniper kills, I timed his jumped, made adjustment for his landing zone for a midair head snipe
