Well that sucks big time. Telltale games brought about the resurgence of the idea of adventure gaming being a valuable and valid form of gaming. I feel terrible for the people behind the scenes who made it what it was.

re: Telltale Games is being revived
I assumed the work on this season was pretty much done already, right? I don't understand why they'd just scrap the conclusion of their most highly regarded title like this. Whoever made this decision clearly didn't care much about the people who have been buying these games at all.
I hate to see anyone lose their job. Best wishes to everyone who worked for this company, I've enjoyed many of the games.
I honestly wish they would've changed, or strayed from their episodic model every once in a while. Most of their games were 5 episodes long and they could never deliver those on any kind of a set pattern for customers to anticipate. Because of that, I understand why most people just waited for them all to release at once, or during a sale. I honestly started doing it myself. It would've been cool to see them drop a whole season at once every now and then.

Well with Mass Effect Andromeda I didn't get a refund for having the season pass.Comment

re: Telltale Games is being revived
That doesn't make sense though. Why would they offer the season pass if it hurt their numbers?

Well that's the same thing, they were the same price. So the question remains, why offer something that hurts their profit margin or bottom line or whatever.

A lot of people weren't doing that with Telltale games. They were like yeah I will just buy it after the entire season is done. A season usually lasted a half year or slightly longer.Comment

re: Telltale Games is being revived
Because they were banking on people buying it upfront like people buy season passes for other games on Day 1, not buying it 8 or 10 months later when everything is all done. When you look at other games like Destiny, COD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, etc. people buy season pass on Day 1 as soon as they pre-order the game.

re: Telltale Games is being revived
I'm one of those people that waited for the series to be complete. I'm not paying money for something I know nothing about. Same reason I don't buy full seasons on Amazon Video while they're still in progress.
If you need people to fund your games during development, put them on Kickstarter or mark them as early access. Can't blame people for waiting. This exact situation is one reason why people wait.Comment

re: Telltale Games is being revived
There was no season pass for ME:A. It was stated in January 2017 (before launch in March 2017.) that there wouldnt be a season pass when the game launched (assuming DLC would be coming later in the release). DLC wasn't officially scrapped until August 2017, but there was never a season pass. Deluxe Version also had no mention of a season pass.Comment

re: Telltale Games is being revived
I hope that they are able to come up with some sort of way to finish this series right. Like the real life TWD the Taletale series was getting a bit long in the tooth, and truthfully, it's probably time it ended. Still, Clem's story deserves a proper farewell. I didn't play any of Taletales other properties but I feel like TWD one will age gracefully and serve as the launch point for other narrive driven choice games into the next gen.Comment

re: Telltale Games is being revived
Whenever a studio shuts down, it's obviously all of the developers, artists, etc. that suffer but thankfully, in this case (and the recent closure of Capcom's Vancouver studio), it appears that the majority of them have already been contacted by Ubisoft and The Coalition.
As for Telltale Games itself, im happy that they're gone because the higher ups simply didn't respect their fanbase as evident by the beyond horrible game engine that they've been using for a decade or so. From bugs, glitches, crashes to corrupted game save files to one console version having the button prompts for the other console brand to just not being good overall, it all finally caught up with them.
I purchased and played one game from them which was the original Walking Dead. For me, it was a 7/10 at best. It was solid in terms of story, characters and writing but at the end of the day, it's basically a point and click walking simulator. Truly didn't and still don't understand the hype for that game and their other series in general. Also, I hated the episodic format. It's horrible. I remember playing the original episode for TWD and then had to wait like six months or something which by then, I didn't evn care. I waited until the season was complete, purchased the other four episodes and beat the game in basically one sitting.
Telltale needed to fix their game engine for so long and they just wouldn't do it until it was too late. For companies like this, I have no remorse for them being gone because they weren't any good to begin with, never improved what they should have, didn't respect the fan base that they did have and simply didn't care about the quality.
Their episodic format was bad (as it is in general) because if you end up liking the first episode (like I did with TWD) but then have to wait months, it's a huge turn off and in an industry where hundreds of games are released every year, you simply can't keep doing that which Telltale had a bad habit of doing.
Back to all the employees, reading other forums, if anything they will all end up being better off because why wouldn't you want to go to a Ubisoft or The Coalition or another AAA publisher or development studio? They will all be far more stable and secure then what they were at Telltale. Granted, the short term will blow chunks but long term, they will all simply be better off.Comment
