    Phantom Doctrine

Game came out during the summer, totally went under the radar in August with the sports games coming out. But if you loved XCom then you will like this. Laid out and plays like Xcom. Only you play as a spy and run a global spy network. Can play as either the CIA or KGB. It is set in the 1980s Cold War time period.

Bought it during the Steam Winter sale. Very fun game. Like Xcom there is base building and research going on at your HQ. You can hire more spies, capture spies, turn spies. I love the intel collection aspect of it where you have to connect the dots to uncover things.

Game is also available for the PS4 and Xbox One.

    Re: Phantom Doctrine

I have looked at this game a bunch but never bought because of the mixed steam reviews. I will follow this and wait for a sale.

Have you see it improve with patches? Thanks for the heads up man.

Didn't buy it at launch in the middle of August so I don't know how it was before they patched it several times. Runs smooth and I haven't encountered any glitches or freezes so far. Game is highly addictive. Didn't even know about this game until the Steam Winter sale and it just popped up in my feed. I love strategy games though.

There is a slight learning curve when it comes to the analytical part of the game, but after 5 minutes you will learn how to do it. I read a lot of reviews saying that part of the game was hard and confusing. To me it is just basic reading comprehension and connecting the dots. I think too many people try to play this game like Xcom and think it is just action oriented. When in reality, even though it looks like and plays like Xcom, it is a much slower paced, way more strategy involved type of game.

The more you explore an area, the more clues and other upgrades you will find. Which helps you out and make things easier for you. If you just go straight for the objective directly only, you will miss a lot of stuff and make things harder for yourself. I really like the amount of control you have in the game and over your spy network. You have total control over spies, where they go, the weapons and gadgets they carry. Your spies can be exposed and you have to change their identity which is cool. Hell you even have control over who learns what.

For an indie company, they really thought this game out well.
