Sharkport / Action replay doesn't work with slim ps2

was trying to download college hoops sharkport rosters for my ps2, couldn't get it to work(i have the new slim ps2). hooked it up to my tv, screen says please insert a ps1 or ps2 disc. then i thought i'd just go out and get a max replay, came across this at the eb site:

"got this over a year ago and at first it played well then I had to fix my lazer. Now I got the new slim PS2 and it dont work at all so I called playstation 2 and they said that they made the new SLIM PS2 NOT TO READ ANY ACTION REPLAYS or GAME SHARKS. I just now got an e-mail that action replay is putting out a new version 3.30 and its made to play on the new SLIM PS2.I hope so because not only does my new slim ps2 not play this stuff but it also crashed my cards and ZAPPED ALL MY GAME SAVES! SONY SAYS THATS BECAUSE I WAS NOT USING A REAL SONY CARD, I WAS USING AN OFF BRAND! THANKS A LOT SONY... "

why would sony want to kill the gameshark / action replay buisness?

    $$$$

If it's not made by Sony why should they allow some off-brand to make money off of their products. I'm not saying it's right but that's what the execs at Sony would tell you.

BTW i'm sure MS would do the same.

Every new hardware release ends up hosing the Sharkport/X-Port stuff. There have been many subtle hardware changes before this, and each one has made older Sharkport/X-Port break.

I don't think Sony is trying to kill anything. But they continually redesign to maximize profits, and those redesigns affect these unauthorized add-ons. They are using hacks based on the current hardware set that get invalidated when the hardware changes.
