KillZone gets bad rap
I rented this game, and it is actually a good game. I don't think the reviewers of this game, really reviewed the final product. It is actually a smart game. I like the gritty look, and the real world weaponry. If you get the opportunity to rent it try it out. pretty good game. I will purchase it when the price comes down however.Tags: None -

I agree very underrated game, it was doomed from the start tho because the media labeled it a "Halo Killer" and when it wasn't they killed it in the reviews because of their own hype. Goes to show reviews mean nothing, Killzone is a decent game. -

I think it was good, but maybe a bit too ambitious for its own good. It tried to do a lot of things but the PS2 hardware just isn’t up for the job. It’s very apparent in the outdoor environments that the hardware cannot keep up with the game. Overall, the game has a fantastic look and feel. It does a great job at making you feel like you are the character and the weapons and reload animations are amazing. The sound has its ups and downs too. Great sound effects and environmental effects, but the characters repeat themselves way too much and the Helghast soldiers have got to be the most annoying enemies I’ve ever heard. Their repetitive screams and moans get old after about one level. I’ve also experienced some sound glitches where the sound effect for a certain gun will just stop working. It has happened to me a few times. Overall, the game was fun, very atmospheric, but the technology of the hardware held this one back from being truly great. In my opinion.Last edited by tanis38; 12-29-2004, 02:59 PM.Comment

I agree, it's a very fun game in its own right. The 'Halo Killer' buzz definitely hurt it more than help it. Hopefully we'll see a sequel on the PS3 where it can really achieve its potential.PSN: ScoopBrady

Re: KillZone gets bad rap
It's very average at best. The PS2 as a system really held this game back, because it seems the developer tried to push it too much and the result was an iffy framerate, with a good deal of technical issues. Overall it's your basic shooter, but it just feels like "been there, done that". If you only own a PS2 it's worth picking up, but don't expect anything more than a middle of the road shooter.
I totally agree about the enemy yells and voice work. Very repetitive. The AI though is something that really bogs the game down, it's so predictable and pretty stupid at points. Rico is too unbalanced imo. The game lacks polish, like it was rushed out the door.
The biggest game killer for me is just how linear it is. The characters, graphic style, and world they made though was pretty darn cool.Comment
