Great reviews, I'm planning on picking it up when I get home from vacation.

I pick it up. Trying to get back on my switch. This game is great a little hard but I think it just me because I’m not used to turn based rpg. Story so far pretty good.

How playable is this if you are generally luke warm all things anime related and have never played a FE game? I'm kind of interested, but have no interest in watching a 40 hour anime.

It really depends. The aesthetic is Anime heavy. Everything from how stuff looks to the cutscenes and academy. Happy go lucky especially in the beginning (Cut scenes are eye candy though).

After the time skip everything is supposed to get very serious (Havent got there myself but it's what I have read)

From the gameplay perspective it's extremely deep between class customization, battalions, weapons, armor and abilities. Its fantastic and one of my favorites in the tactical rpg genres.

My suggestion would be too rent it (redbox, etc...) or get it used at Gamestop for the 7 day full refund policy and try it out.

I'm basically the perfect test case for that. The only tactical RPG I ever enjoyed was Advance Wars and games like Yakuza or Persona are kind of annoying for me because they are so over the top with those things.
Still picked up Fire Emblem because I was out of games to play right now and reviews looked good. And man, I'm so addicted to this game.

Sure, there is that typical Anime stuff. But the gameplay is so smart and well balanced that the positive outweigh the bad. And most of the things between are kind of bonus anyway.

Not going to lie it took me awhile to get into this game, since I kind of did not like some early game choices that made two of my characters die off real early in the game. But, outside of that I picked up the dlc, since the new units seem interesting, which got me to to start playing the main story, but after you diverse your units into advance stages you can see how some of these battle can kill you on the harder difficulty.
