That's an absolute joke. No way I'll buy one of these things if it will die midway on a cross-country flight or just 2.5 hours into a road trip. Hell, there are some people who have total commutes in NYC of three hours or more.

        Take care,

They got third party devices on tap for launch that will extend the life.

Where did you get those numbers?

The PSP gets 5 and half hours on most games and depending on the setting up to 8 in some cases.

What will the battery time be?
4-5 hours for Video watching through UMD.
4-6 hours average for gameplay through UMD.
4 hours = with headphones and 50% volume, no WIFI and lowest screen brightness (80 cd/m2).
6 = with headphones and 50% volume, no WIFI and highest screen brightness (180 cd/m2).
Basicly, if you use all features (highest volume on speakers, highest brightness setting, WIFI and a badly coded (in terms of saving power) high graphics game then you will up with 3 hours. If you play a puzzle game on low brightness, no audio and no WIFI then you will get 8 hours.
Batteries are $45 (in Japan) if you want more battery time.

How do i know how much of the battery is left?
The PSP have a battery meter with three notches.
            3 notches lit = 100% battery.
            2 notches lit= 66% battery.
            1 notch lit = 33% battery.

Extra batteries will be very cheap and theres a chance the US PSP will have a stronger battery out the box. Battery life is a non issue for me.

Glad to see you're inhaling the Sony press release hook, line and sinker. Real-world testing indicates otherwise.

IGN tests show a life of 3.5 hours for heavy (everything on) use and 2.5 hours for wi-fi gaming.

The battery lasted anywhere from 90 minutes to three hours in a graphically intensive game like Ridge Racer in this test. And that's without wi-fi play:

Here's another real-world playtest (not a Sony press release) in which the battery died in less than three hours:

                    http://wirelessdigest.typepad.com/ga...attery_li.html

Even Sony President Ken Kuturagi admits to battery problems with the PSP but promises a fix:

You can believe the press releases. I'll stick with real-life testing and words from the Sony top dog himself.

Short battery life IS an issue right now, at least with the launch units, graphically intensive launch titles and wi-fi play.

Whose going by Sony's press release, all you did was post the same link I posted which is a real life test from IGN.

They got 90 minutes off the initial charge which was straight out of the box. 90 mins(out the box at 40% charge) from Ridge Racers at top-performance is a a battery eater. Importers have stated at lower settings(which is basisclly lower brightness) they get a 3-5 hours from that game.

Battery life for Wi-fi will be low but thats expected. I doubt I'll be playing someone for more than 2 hours wirelessed while on the train.

I stand by my point battery life is a non issue, 4-6 on most games(not the 2.5-3 you listed) is just fine to most people. Later on most games will get around the 8 hour mark so no worries there either.

You have issues with the battery life cool don't buy the PSP its simple as that. 4-6 hours is all I need on a day to day basis out of a hand held. My laptop runs around the same rate so I doubt I'll have any headaches in this area, I deal with battery issues all the time.
