    PC Video Card Question...

    Folks,

I have an AMD Athlon 1Ghz PC with 256MB of RAM. My girlfriend REALLY wants to get The Sims 2, but I'm afraid that, with my old GeForce 1 card, my computer wouldn't be able to handle it.

My question is, would a better video card do the trick? Is my PC still fast enough to handle today's more graphic intense PC games IF I had a better video card?

If so, what's the card I should look at getting?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your processor isn't bad, but you'd definitely need a boost in memory.

If you're not looking at being bleeding edge (and you're not with that processor ), look at the ATI 9600 or 9800 cards.

Just get a budget ATi Saphire 9600 SE for 50 bucks they sell em at directron.com with free shipping. It has 128mb of DDR and is a Direct X 9 card that would do the trick, as far as your cpu is concerned its okay your only bottleneck I see is the ram. More Ram and a graphics card will do you right and will only set you back at least 75 bucks. Nowadays A gig of ram is the bare minimum. Thank goodness you have a cheap CPU the ram for it is so so cheap.

I had some slow down issues with Sims 2 on my machine--

            pentium 4 3 gig
            1 gig of ram
            9800 pro 128

I just upgraded my card and seems to be running better now -

DOnt even try to install it without a good upgrade in Ram and card-
