Finished Elden Ring yesterday and planning to dive into Horizon Forbidden West tonight.

Can’t wait. I loved Horizon Zero Dawn

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West

I’ve played around 70 hours and am close to finishing. I haven’t enjoyed the sequel as much as the first game. It’s really bloated. It feels like they went the Assassin Creed route of stuffing the game with side quests and other things and having a crap ton to do. On one hand you certainly get a lot of content but at some point it takes away from the game. There is a lot of farming for resources and I’m really thankful you can at least turn off the gather animation (for herbs, wood) to speed it up. I probably enjoy the rebel camps more than anything.

I really liked the first game but it took me awhile to warm up to it. Getting used to stealth based combat with trip wires and traps was something to adjust to but I did. I haven’t loved the combat in this game. The game throws a ton of different weapons and elemental ammo at you but this doesn’t really improve the combat and can be a bit overwhelming at times with the sheer options. Especially when you try and decide what weapons to use and what to try and upgrade. The skill tree is overdone and should have been simplified as well.

The game’s strength was always the story over combat. The first game was really interesting. How did this world happen? The back story of Aloy, etc. This story has been largely meaningless to me. I haven’t cared much at all. This is probably the most disappointing thing to me about the sequel.

Overall I have played quite a bit. I’ve got my monies worth but I’ve never felt like the game was anything more than mediocre.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West

During my play through I really enjoyed it. However after finishing the game a while back and after weeks of not playing, the game was a bit of a let down.

The story has its moments but is all over the place. It feels like two games worth of story crammed into one, like they weren't sure if they would get a chance to do a third game.

It's not bad but was underwhelming and definitely has sequel-itis.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West

Finished the final main quest last night. Played 70 hours and have about 72 percent completion. Still have a lot of side content to do.

Definitely better than the first and that is saying a lot. I am going to take a break from this and move on to the next game. I am almost through Elden Ring but not sure if I am going to finish that next. Think I am finally going to give Days Gone a go next.

Forbidden West will go down as a top 5 PS5 game for me and likely a game of the year candidate for me as well.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West

Have had this downloaded since launch day…just finished the main quest lol. Theres a few reasons for that, the main one being I always just have way too much to play or going on in life, it’s hard for me to focus on one game anymore.

Another big reason was this game just never really clicked with me or pulled me in like Zero Dawn did. I’m not saying FW is a bad game, far from it. The game play for the most part (I HATED the climbing) was better than ZD. The game looks and runs amazing on PS5, especially after they patched performance mode. The story, in my opinion, just didn’t come close to even touching the story of ZD. There’s some cool characters in FW, and they really added a lot of depth to side missions. But the main story just never really pulled me in or got me hooked, and I feel even more “meh” to it after seeing the ending.

Love me some Aloy though. I probably have a few more hours of playing to clean up the rest of the trophies and get the platinum, which I will do. But as much as I loved the first Horizon, this one was a slight let down for me. And again I think this is a great game, I just really didn’t feel the story too much.

VRR support just launched a few minutes ago. Good thing I still have some trophies to clean up because I really wanted to try this out with this game. I think I read one of the options has a range up to 120fps, I’m downloading to try it right now.

Hope we get a dlc if it was like the first game we would get a expansion in november but of course things are different now days with covid and such so maybe we could get an expansions for like early 2023 or something. I still need to 100% if I can at like 94% after like 108 hours and still need to start a new game plus play threw at some point in time.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Forbidden West

I know I’m late to the party, just picked the game up on discount. I wasn’t really that in to the first game, never even finished it, which was why I didn’t buy this until it went on sale. Got it for like $22 on CDKEYS. Maybe my expectations weren’t very high because I didn’t pay much or didn’t love the first, but wow this game has blown me away so far.

A lot of people have already touched on it, but the depth of the side quests and their accompanying characters is honestly the best I’ve ever seen in an open world game. The attention to detail is just frankly mind blowing. Sometimes I forget about the actual main story line. The side stories that are happening between all of the different cultures and tribes is just as, if not more interesting. It’s almost like two games in one.

Then you have the combat. One the most fun, if not the most fun ranged combat system in any game. The melee isn’t great but I don’t think they really cared because they know this game is all about ranged combat. If you want to do melee then play Ghost of Tsushima or God of War. The strategy that goes into every encounter is unmatched in any game I’ve ever played. You have to decide to go stealth or not, you have to find out what the enemy is weak against and strong against. Then you have to find the right weapons in order to accomplish what you need to get done. Then on top of all of that, you’re fighting against 43 different machines with like 30 more variants of those machines, which all have different move sets for the most part.

The game is proof of what a great group of people can come up with when they truly care about their consumer. You can tell that this studio plays video games. They play other games and took stuff from them and make them better then you’ve ever seen before. A lot of people are getting tired of the “Ubisoft” open world formula. But HFW proves, when done right, it is still a tried and true formula for a reason.

I’m only 30 hours in and at about 25% completion and am already contemplating if this is my GOTY for 2022. It’s between this and Elden Ring but for way different reasons. Elden Ring showed me something I had never seen before and kept me on the edge of my seat for literally the entire ride, there wasn’t a single second to even take a breath. Where as HFW takes a great formula that a lot of other games have used, but does it so damn well that it’s hard to find something more enjoyable in an open world game these days.

Also maybe the best photo mode in any game…

After about a 120 hours I finally got 100% the other day on FW. I just started a few days ago a new game plus play threw now. At some point I may go back and play zero dawn again because it's been a while and I never had a pro and have not played zero dawn on ps5.
