I just googled something about SR2 and happened to find it. It's from GDC 2007. There was a great video I once posted in the SR3 thread about SR3's art direction, really interesting to watch:
It all started with an internal joke and a word that inexplicably caught on...Exaggereal. Exaggereal became the internal name and catchword of the new art style for Saints Row: The Third. In this presentation, Frank Marquart, the art...

Also, you can search on YouTube for something like: Saints Row Physics of Fun and you'll find a GDC video about vehicle physics in SR3.

Thanks for this. I like to create 3D models as a hobby and import them into the Unreal Engine to look at, so I love looking at how assets are created for games. Saints Row, Watch Dogs, GTA, etc. are all games I love to walk around, look at, and take inspiration from, so these types of things are great resources.

You should check the GDC YouTube channel, there are so many interesting videos there.

Anyway, can't wait to see what developers add with the November update. I'm mostly interested in quality of life updates, so looking forward to the next update and future updates.

                      Re: Saints Row Reboot

Got to the point where I can call gangs/police to attack me. I think I can only call one at a time, so what I do is attack one on the spot and then call another and try to find a safe spot to see them fighting eachother. Not as good as in WD2, but still entertaining for a while. And this way it's easier to get to 5-star chases (since you get 3 stars when you call them). Then chases become epic and much more intense with helicopter and special units, may even see tanks.

                        Re: Saints Row Reboot

Man, this game is amazing! So I call Marshall to get them to call backup and get to 5 stars (need to make it happen to advance the KAKTS venture). I was fighting them for 2.5 hours, had to start over quite a few times because I didn't survive.

Once you get to 5 stars their mini-boss will arrive, which is a human-robot crazy dude with robotic voice and miniguns in both arms. He has weak spots that are hard to hit. And you can hit him with any car, he doesn't give a da*n about it.

So one time I called my buddies and they were able to distract him and the other 30-40 soldiers around us, but one by one they died and I didn't survive.
So I decided to try alone one final time. I get to 5 stars, the mini-boss arrives, and the place (downtown) is crazy with dozen of soldiers as well as dozens of civilians in cars and even some pedestrians...So I keep trying to hit this guy's weak spots, but it's tough and you have a very small window to do it before he's attacking again. Then more Soldiers arrive in their vehicles. Suddenly, the mini-boss gets into a pickup truck, I didn't even know he could do it because he's big! He chases me and yells at me with his robot voice, but somehow he misses me and hit a wall and gets stuck. I switch to my grenade launcher (that didn't help much against him under regular circumstances, but now he's stuck in the truck). I shoot 10 grenades at him and the truck explodes and he's done! I passed this mini-mission and can finally continue this venture.

It's 1:45 am now and I had a blast! Been playing late at night the last few nights, mostly doing crazy chases and shootouts. So much fun!
Oh yeah, just found a mini gun on the street that this guy dropped. Too bad you can't keep it.

Earlier this summer with the reboot getting closer I decided to give it another chance and just approached it as if it was a cheesy action movie and I actually was able to enjoy it enough to complete it and never felt bothered to play it either. The game may not be as pretty as GTA nor have all the tiny details around the world, nor does it have as complex of a living world as GTA, but I actually appreciated the design of the world in the game as it definitely feels different from what GTA normally goes for. It had a variety of big city areas and areas that felt more small town.

It was fun. I still need to play IV, but I just can't see myself enjoying it nearly as much even if I give it the fair shot I gave The Third a couple of months ago.
Off topic but didn't want to go to another thread, but Saints Row IV is immediately over the top compared to 3. I just finished the SR3. The primary story missions are over the top once it gets going, but for the most part still grounded. It's the side/secondary missions that are very over the top/cheesy. I just started SR4, that starts off WAY over the top immediately lol. I'm not sure I'll actually stick through with SR4, I just wanted to see how it starts, but it's a little too over the top for me.

Can't get enough of those police chases. Last night I spent close to an hour just being chased. When you get to 5 stars they send helicopters as well as military units with tanks and armored vehicles, and FBI-like agents. Chases all over the map from the downtown to small towns to the desert and all around. Shooting one of their tires and seeing them struggle to keep up with you is fun. And then ramming street barricades, ramming their vehicles...endless fun. I think it's the most fun I had with police in any game in recent memory.

Welcome to Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the American Southwest. In a world rife with crime, where lawless factions fight for power, a group of young friends embark on their own criminal venture, as they rise to the top in their bid to become Self Made.

What’s coming in the November Update

It’s been a few weeks since we talked about our intentions for this year’s Saints Row content and beyond, so today we’d like to give a little more detail about what you can expect from the November Update which has been completed, tested, submitted and arrives later this month.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience while we got this update ready for release, it includes over 200 fixes and quality of life updates, so it’s a beast!
Here’s a preview of what to expect when the update drops later in November:

                                Co-op
Co-op has been a huge priority for us. Significant effort has gone into ensuring that this is working as intended – including connectivity, mini map issues and proper credit of player rewards. Fun with a friend in Santo Ileso should be a much smoother experience going forward!

                                Challenges & Collectibles
Another hot issue in the community has been challenges and collectibles – these should now track properly, and will be awarded to you retroactively if you have already completed the requirement, so make sure you update your game to get that all important 100%!

Quality of Life & New Features
Of course, we have been looking at your feedback and implementing our first set of Quality of Life changes and new features in Saints Row including:
                                · Combat encounters that are better balanced, more fun and more rewarding in terms of progression
                                · More Saints roaming completed districts, as well as introducing new district tiers
                                · Loads of new ways to manage your incredible fleet of vehicles, including more slots to use and 7 new garage locations
                                · You should see more pedestrians and police, collectibles should be easier to find, and you’ll be able to escape notoriety levels more easily
                                · A voice pitch slider! One of the most requested features, you’ll be able customize your Boss’ personality even further
                                · Haptic Feedback for PS5 DualSense controllers is being added back in for weapons
                                · Plus tons more improvements based on your feedback…

We will of course release full change notes alongside the update, get comfortable, because it’s a big one!
