    Ready or Not

Some of you may remember this game. If you don't feel like reading, just watch the video at the bottom of the post.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Gd139Nin33M" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Long story short, it's a spiritual successor to SWAT 4. It was announced back in 2017. It had a backing campaign. It's supposed to be a nitty gritty hardcore swat game.

Void Interactive had rough moments over the last 4 years, though. They hard terrible communication with the community, once going over 12 months without a peep to even the backers.

Then seemingly out of nowhere they released a PvP build for the backers who bought the $120 version. This was not well received. It was basically a CoD run and gun style PvP that wasn't tactical at all. The fans were livid.

Then this year comes and they release a PvE version and drop the NDA. People are ecstatic. It's what SWAT 5 would have been and then some,. Now they have launched it in early access and the game is getting raving reviews. It is Overwhelming Positive on Steam right now.

I personally love it. It nails everything SWAT 4 did well and improves on it.

If you are a tactical gamer or someone who loved SWAT then you must get this game.

Is this one that you have to enjoy with other people? I personally like solo gaming better and was not sure how the single player is.

So I played this a little, pretty good. AI teammates are decent. PC wise, don't take much to run it, so a lot of people can play it. Recommended say GTX 1060.

Real tempted to pick this up. How much content/maps/modes does it have now and do you know how often it'll be updated? I was wondering if there was some sort of road map.

I loved swat 4 back in the day and I still play swat 4 SEF mod with my cousins to this day

I'm not sitting in front of the game right now, but there are I think 7 official maps in the early access right now plus 2 additional maps that are not finalized.

There are also 5 different game modes in PvE. There is Barricaded Suspects which has.... suspects that have barricaded themselves inside a location with civilians also there.

There is Raid which is similar to Terrorist Hunt in Rainbow Six.

There is Active Shooter which is what it sounds like. You must move fast to take out the shooter(s) before too many civilians die.

There is Bomb Defusal which is pretty straightforward. Get in and defuse the bombs before they blow, then rescue any hostages and take down/arrest the suspects.

Then finally there is Hostage Rescue which needs no explanation.

At the moment not every map has 5 game modes on in, in fact only 1 or 2 maps have all 5 modes working. Most only have around 2 right now.

They do patch the game daily, but I'm not sure if there is a roadmap that shows when you can expect a new map or a new mode on a current map.

The devs are also very big on the modding side of things, but right now there isn't an official modding toolkit since it is in early access, but they do plan to have an official modding toolkit, a level editor like Swat 4 had, and Steam Workshop integration.

However, there is a group of people right now working on an unofficial mod toolkit who seem to be making very good progress. Since it is Unreal Engine modding won't be a big hassle relatively speaking. They already have mods replacing weapons and uniforms, mods that allow you to tune AI behavior, and even allow you to disable trips/traps as well.

Also, they have already gotten custom maps in the game and have trips working on them and are in the middle of figuring out the spawning system. So custom maps are pretty close to being a thing which will obviously add plenty of content.

If you are looking for 40 hours of official content before replaying anything it isn't at that point. I have about 10 hours in the game right now and still haven't finished at least 1 game mode on every map, but only have 1 official map left I believe, and the 2 test maps. Then we begin replaying the maps, but different game modes on them.

I do know Void plans to have many more official maps added, but I don't think they've set any specific timeline which is unfortunate, but that may change soon now that early access is here.

Most of the maps right now are on the larger side compared to Swat 4, but Void has specifically said they have plans to add many smaller maps like single residence houses or something akin to Food Wall in Swat 4.

If you need more content than what I've said above I'd keep an eye on the game for now, I'd assume that here soon the modding scene may take off once they crack the map making and have a good guide out there, or even a toolkit. I know myself and others are dying to make some custom maps and that should add a ton of content to the game itself.

I picked this up. SWAT 4 took over a LAN we had a number of years ago... it's disappointing there's been nothing comparable since so I'm looking forward to the possibilities here.

Watched a group play it the other night... just hilarious.

I really want to purchase this but don't want to play solo. Would anyone be interested in squading up?

Edit - I bought it. Who wants to play ?

This game is so much fun. Ended up joining the ready or not discord and running with some guys on there. We had a blast last night. Did the meth house and car dealership. Loving this game.

Modded or Not discord just released the first (I believe) custom modded map. It’s a remake from one of the swat 4 maps.

Well tried a barricaded suspects mission on the testing map and definitely going to have to watch some videos on how to play. I was not tactical at all to say the least lol. Died opening a door recklessly by a trap. But I did complete a decent portion of it before dying, though very badly. LOL. Definitely going to require planning and slowing down.

Not sure what this means for the game's future, but Void lost their publisher due to wanting to include a school shooter scenario.

Personally, I think they should have left out this type of mission or whatever you wanna call it. I get wanting to be realistic and have real life events in the game, but they probably should have known this wouldn't be well received considering there are a lot of people out there bashing this game just from what's included right now.
