I have it turned on, and I roll critical misses on dialog options far more often than should be statistically probable. I have seen some people say to turn it off, but I'm scared just how much worse my luck can be. I already will go through streak of rolling 1's on 3 out of 5 consecutive dialog opportunities with surprising frequency. I don't want to know what bad luck streak I could hit with them off

One other tip for players that took me far too long to realize myself.

If you notice that Shadowheart is missing a lot of her attacks (specifically her cantrip fireball). It's because Fireball is her race (elf) cantrip and it is tied to the Int stat (which Shadowheart does not have a lot of points there unless you respec her.) So, even though the damage range is lower, you're going to have much more success using her other cantrips to attack with.

Between the YouTube videos and OS I’m slowly getting a grasp. This game is something else and I’m just learning as I go.

Folks it’s a great time to be a gamer. This game and Starfield has my attention and I haven’t even dug into Madden 24 as much as I wanted to and NBA 2K is up next.

I think this is right. They are saying karmic dice avoids streaks of success or failure and it also applies to enemies and NPCs.

Off from right when I started on launch day. Just more fun for me knowing there isn't any dice manipulation going on behind the scenes (XCOM does it too on everything except its hardest difficulty, and mods are the only way to disable it).

I can see how if you played on the highest difficulty that Karmic dice off could potentially lead to having a really bad time though - mostly why I stuck to the middle difficulty :

Good to see the console folks able to enjoy this awesome game now. I was wondering how playable it was going to be with a controller with how noisy the UI is (so many things to select, etc.). But it seems like it plays fine judging from the comments here. Can the touch pad simulate a PC's mouse too for finer control of some things?

No. Wheel method, R1 R2 L1 L2. It’s really user friendly once you get the hang of it.

Game is truly incredible. It is the best RPG ever made and I am only 6-7 hours in. It’s remarkable.

This game is so impressive. This personal bias of mine, for me it just goes on to show how phenomenal this game is.

I hate cRPGs. I legitimately have never been able to sink more than a few hours into them even though I love other RPGs (JRPG's like old school Final Fantasy or action RPGs like Skyrim). Not because these games are inherently bad, the core mechanics just aren't for me. Even highly praised games like Divinity, which I recognize as being very good for what it is, I just have never been able to enjoy.

BG3 though...this game has been so good from the start, and it's not as if it is missing the aspects of cRPGs that I do not like. Everything is just implemented so well that I am able to either ignore them or find some entertainment in them while enjoying the other great features.

I was on the fence with this one for so long because it was a cRPG and Starfield would be out just 1 month later. I'm glad I pulled the trigger though.

I've also turned off karmic dice after leaving it on for a few days since it came out. Don't like the idea of something behind the scenes helping me out because I failed to pick a 30 DC lock with only a +12 bonus (meaning I need to roll 18+) 5 times in a row. This also applies to combat. A huge part of the combat to me is trying to gain advantage on the enemy to hit (buffs, high ground, etc.) and making them miss (raising your AC, applying debuffs, disadvantages, etc.)

It doesn't feel right to have the dice messed with just because an enemy missed an attack a couple times when I have 28 AC, blinded the enemies, and they're on low ground. I'm okay with being hit in this scenario, it's just the idea of karmic dice messing with the results to guarantee that hit that annoys me. If they hit me cause they actually rolled a 20, great roll!

Gonna try it set to off.

So your saying Karmic dice is manipulated under the hood to avoid bad roll streaks?

That is exactly what the mechanic is (though it doesn't seem to help me that much )

Early on there were also some reports/rumors that the karmic dice were resulting in lower average rolls, even if it was supposed to eliminate bad streaks. I'm not sure if that was based on purely anecdotal evidence or something confirmed with the code.

Yep, the ingame description is "Karmic dice avoid failure streaks, while keeping the results mostly random." This supposedly also applies to enemy failure streaks. I haven't played long enough with it on to confirm that's the case, I just turned it off after a couple of days and haven't had any problems. People on reddit complained about fights being too long because they miss so often now, but I never felt that way in any fight with it off.

The only time where I had a really long streak of failures was the lockpicking scenario I used lol. I went through 20+ lock picks trying to open a lock, but to me it felt fair. I didn't really have any classes who specialized in it. You best believe I got the knock spell at the next level up that gave me another spell.

If you truly love story driven characters….and enjoy turn based combat this is the pinnacle of that.

To me the game is so massive in scope in terms of no play through will be the same. The sheer amount of freedom In the story telling and party building you can do is unlike any game I have played before.

Dragon Age Origins and Inquisition to me were the best RPG’s in terms of that kinda scope.

Divinity Sin 2 is a game that is universally loved as well in this genre.

This game simply takes the entire genre to new heights. This blows away Skyrim…..Skyrim feels like a elementary school game compared to Baldurs Gate 3.

I am so addicted……and I see myself pouring in easily and this is no exaggeration…..500-700 hours into this game over the next few years.

                              It’s that magical.
