    Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

I am going to be changing these up a bit based on my gaming patterns in 2023. I am still going to have categories but those categories and requirements are going to be a bit different. Despite a setback in 2023, setting gaming goals is still for me. So, this is year 4 of my gaming goals.

    Sports Games:

We are going to be realistic here and work off the trend of what has happened the last 2 years with my sports gaming. There are no goals here. Just current plans that will inevitably not pan out.

MLB 20: Continue my future Indians franchise.

NBA 2k24: Continue my future Cavs MyNBA.

Madden 21 (PS5): If I start a Madden franchise, it will be on the last Madden that I honestly enjoyed. It would be a Browns franchise if I do.

I have not had a lot of motivation to play sports games. The passion just isn't there for me. The only one I actually want to play right now is NBA 2k24.

A very negative interaction in the last few weeks on another subforum about my contributions to the community has really put a sour note on the sports subforums for me as a whole. I will be staying out of those for the foreseeable future and just hanging out in the dynasty and non sports games subforums.

    Non Sports Gaming:

This is going to be a major focus in 2024 with my gaming patterns continuing to evolve.

    PC Gaming:

    Meet 3 gaming goals.

This one was successful in 2023 so it will continue to be a focus in 2024.

Potential Games in this Category include:

    Stardew Valley
    Farming Simulator 22
    Cities Skylines
    Factorio
    The Political Process
    Project Hospital
    Planet Zoo
    Gear City
    Software Inc.
    Project Highrise

    Console Gaming:

    Beat 3 games

Games I plan to progress further in during 2024 (Games that were started in 2023 but not finished. To qualify here, I had to have played or started it in 2023):

Red Dead Redemption 2 (third playthrough)

    Zelda Breath of the Wild

    No Man's Sky

    Spiderman 2

    Baldur's Gate 3

God of War Ragnarok (last mission)

    The year of Final Fantasy:

So just before the end of 2023, I discovered that SquareEnix has released the pixel remaster versions of Final Fantasy 1-6. I have been itching to play or replay some of these games for a long time. I know they just redid the sprites but the important part here is that they are finally available for me to play on my PS5.

A big chunk of my game time will be dedicated to this. I already know it. Add in 7 and 9 and I could play nothing but Final Fantasy games in 2024. These games could quite possibly cause me to ignore all other games in 2024.

    Potential Purchases:

    This is a tough one.

Cities Skylines 2: I would have bought this at release but there were quite a few bugs and lack of optimization. I will be waiting until it likely goes on sale. I had stopped playing the first one in the summer of 2023 anticipating this release. Likely I will continue with the first one until there is a good sale for this.

Suicide Squad: I am on the edge about this one. I wanted Gotham Knights to be the defining game in the DC game genre but it fell short. Not sure what to think about the Suicide Squad.

Gran Turismo 7: This was on my potential purchase list and is again. Simply because I am waiting for a really good deal on this one. It's not a genre I play too often but I dig the collection aspect of it.

    Sports Gaming Purchases:

EA NCAA Football 25: I loved NCAA 14 like many did. I lost my PlayStation 3 a few years back and am no longer able to play 14. I have reservations about this game but will give it a go depending on multiple factors. This would be the only sports game I buy in 2024 because it is year 1 of the new series.

Potential In Queue Games (not a back log):

This is a list of games I could potentially pull from my collection to play in 2024. Some I got but never played in 2023. No goals here. But it kind of applies to the above goal of beat 3 games. Some are in progress and will be marked that way. But to make this list, I did not play it in 2023. Some I also started previously but never finished but would potentially start over instead.

    Assassin's Creed Mirage
    Star Wars Jedi Survivor
    Elden Ring (in progress)
    Arkham Knight
    Greedfall
    Saints Row Day One Edition
    The Division 2 (in progress)
Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores (from my current completed game save of 80 hours)
    Assassin's Creed Valhalla (in progress)
    The Last of Us Remastered
    Mafia
    Mafia 2
    Mafia 3
    Pokemon Sword/Shield (in progress)
    The Witcher 3 (PS5 version)
Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut (in progress)
    Guardians of the Galaxy
    Demon’s Souls
Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga (in progress)
    World of Final Fantasy
Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin
    Ratchet and Clank
    Ratchet and Clank Drift Apart
    Biomutant
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
    Secret of Mana
    Rise of the Tomb Raider

    Overall assessment:

Year 3 was a mixed bag of successes and opportunities so I am modifying my approach this year and will see how it goes. My gaming patterns continue to change. I don't know how much I will accomplish this year and this is the first time my Games in Queue list has been put here.

      COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!

Other than that, I'm currently playing Skyrim for the very first time (yeah, I'm super late) and Madden 23, which I honestly think is the best one I've ever played.

        Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

With all the hype around GTA VI, I've bought GTA V for PS5, so been playing through story mode again for the first time since PS3. It's a lot of fun still but it's showing it's age compared to RDR2.

Also been playing through Mafia Definitive Edition, it's pretty fun I guess, I figure I'm about halfway done.

Big one for me for the foreseeable future will be Baldur's Gate 3. Huge learning curve for me as I don't really play RPGs, or I haven't in many years.

I'll take a look at MLB The Show, to see what new features it will have. May or may not upgrade this year.

These should get me to the summer when the new College Football comes out. This is the big one for me this year. Waited 10 years for a new one.

          Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

I'm MUCH pickier about games I buy these days; I bought very few AAA titles in 2023 and expect to get fewer this year. It's not even a money thing, I just have lost interest in most of the mainstream genres/games.

So right now, it's FFVII Rebirth (and likely re-plays of Remake/Crisis Core) and MLBTS 23. I'm utterly ensconced in my Reds franchise on MLBTS23 and it's pushing me fairly deep into the "do not buy" camp for 24. FFVII is the first non-sports game I've pre-ordered in a couple of years and there's nothing else slated for 2024 that really excites me.

I've got a bunch of JRPGs in my queue as well and may knock-out a couple of them (I really want to finish Tales of Arise - which I started a LONG while ago...long enough that I may need to re-start it).
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

            Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

2023 was a weird year for me gaming-wise (and other ways, too, but that's a story for another time), one that saw me lose a lot of interest in sports games and the hobby as a whole.

            Currently playing:
EA Sports PGA Tour. I've put over 100 hours into this game; I just find it relaxing. In the FedEx Playoffs in Year 1 of Career Mode.

PGA Tour 2K23. This has been my most-played game of the last month or so. The 3-click swing was a great addition to this series and it can be very challenging on higher difficulties.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder. This was a Christmas gift and I've really been enjoying it so far.

            Game I'm starting over:
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. This came out at a tough time for me and I've struggled really getting into the game, one that I was really anticipating. I'd like to start back from the beginning and really take my time with it, similar to how I approached Breath of the Wild.

            Game I'm determined to finish:
Horizon Forbidden West. I really enjoy this one, but I keep finding myself going a long time between play sessions. I need to just put other games to the side until I finish it.

            To play:
            Hogwarts Legacy (PS5)
            Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
            Red Dead Redemption II

            To buy:
Nothing. Going to play what is currently in my gaming library.
            Currently Playing:
            MLB The Show 25 (PS5)

              Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

              Fun thread.

2022 started me trying to work through my insane backlog. I have been focused on short games for the last couple years but now I am shifting towards larger games.

              2023 completed:
Final Fantast VII Crisis Core reunion (twice)
              Dead Space 2023 (twice)
              RE3REmake
              Witcher 2
              Guardians of the Galaxy
The Callisto Protocol and its DLC

              Sports games:
              MLB the Show 20, 21, 22
              NBA 2k23
              Madden 20

Here is what 2024 looks like:

Final Fantasy XV (started this in December)
Final Fantast VII Rebirth (take my money)

After that some combination of the following:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
              Xenoblade Chronicles X
              Red Dead Redemption
              Horizon Zero Dawn
              Lost Odyssey
              Super Mario Wonder
              Terranigma
              Dead Rising

I won't get through all of these but I'll try.

              Sports games:
MLB the Show 20 and 22
              Madden 20 (maybe 21 too)
              NBA 2K23
NCAA 14 (I need to get back into this)

I'll pick up NCAA Football when it releases.

Like others have said, no longer impulse buying. Only a selected few I'll definitely be getting when released sooner than later. Looking forward to the selected games and expensive 'toys' this year. Undisputed is the only one at the moment that I'm hoping more than expecting a quality console release but, I'm still hoping. Other than that.......

Kinda weird how sympatico our gaming trends are going (!)

No big plans for me. I'll probably get EA College Football, but other than that, I don't have any definite plans to buy anything this year. I'm kinda sorta starting to get into racing games, so I'll dive deeper with Gran Turismo 7. I also have Horizon Forbidden West sitting out there which I should really run through; I liked the first game, but to be honest, I didn't really see the need for a sequel as I sorta had my fill with the first one. But it came 'free' with my PS5 so I feel like I should run through it.

So until a new College Hoops 2K comes out (spoiler alert: never), there's not much on my 'high anticipation' list for the foreseeable future.

This is how I've felt for a while now.
                          It mostly has to do with the fact the sports games I really enjoyed no longer exist;
Fight Night, 2Ks NHL and NBA games, MVP Baseball.
EA's NHL games and The Show have grown stale for me.
Since joining an online OOTP league, I no longer have any itch to play console sports much anymore.

I discovered State of Decay 2 over the Holiday and I see myself playing a lot of that in 2024.
Aliens: Dark Descent is up next after SoD2.

I'm also going to attempt to complete Starfield.
Star Wars Outlaws looks like a lot of fun as well.

Star Wars Outlaws is at the top of my list. Other than that, an indie game called The Precinct, by the company who made American Fugitive. It’s an ode to games like Police Quest. Nothing else really on my radar. I’ll probably be playing a bunch of Super Mega Baseball 4 when spring training gets started.

It’s an ode to games like Police Quest. Nothing else really on my radar. I’ll probably be playing a bunch of Super Mega Baseball 4 when spring training gets started.

Police Quest 4 was amazing on my old 386 PC. That whole era of "Quest" games was great - King's Quest 5, Space Quest, etc. - the ones that first utilized the 'hand / eye / walk' icons to control the games. The graphics at that time seemed ridiculously good (and were, for the time). Good times...

Is Wolverine still slated to come out this year, even with the Insomanic leaks? I was really looking forward to that game.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
