    XDefiant (PS5, XSX, PC)

I have been playing this game for a few days now.

It's a F2P Arena Shooter which steals ideas from a lot of other FPS with modes that mirror Domination, Hardpoint, etc. from COD and then there's the transport game mode like you would see in Overwatch, Paladins, etc. The hero characters and maps are based on Ubisoft games such as Splinter Cell (RIP), The Division, Watch Dogs, etc. There is also no SBMM so there's a lot more variety in the types of games you see opposed to being paired based solely on skill.

I don't think anything can kill COD because they have such a stranglehold on the market but there's a lot to like about this game for me. I think the movement is a lot better than the most recent COD games. Out of the box it handles really good and there's a lot of controller customizability. There's still some polish needed ironing out cross play hurdles but overall a good experience for something that is free. I have seen a little bit of rubber banding and server instability and with input method matchmaking on I will get paired with some guys obviously using mouse and keyboard but otherwise good.

I'm going to continue on and see what I can get out of it without spending any additional money but overall a good experience.

It's a very fun game, mechanics wise. However, it lacks depth. I can play this game for an hour and have a lot of fun, but past an hour? I get bored.

i don't know what it is about this game, but i played one round and uninstalled it. Maybe i'll give it a shot again one day but it just didn't mesh with me.

I think content is going to be the problem for most people. I usually can only sit down for about an hour at a time so it works out okay. I'm hoping it can help bridge the gap until the new EA CFB game. There's not enough time for me to start a new story game and finish it. I hate that Battlefield being so bad has forced me down this road but this is really the only FPS I have touched in a few years now.

I had high hopes for this game, but after several matches across two days I am done. Too many jumping and sliding idiots, and it’s clear the game is pay to win.

Shooters are in a really sad state at the moment.

So no different than COD then right?

I downloaded MW3 free to play weekend yesterday as I wanted to see how the game was, and all I ran into was a bunch of sliding and bunny hopping idiots.

I wanted to like both games, but unfortunately this is what online FPS games are, sliding, bunny hopping.

The game offers significant customization options for controllers, enhancing the play experience.

I've been playing another free game calleed 'the finals' and it's actually pretty awesome. I'm always down to checkout other stuff though so I'll give this a whirl, but to anyone who hasn't tried that one - it's quite polished and feels AAA

just to update my own post - .... this is a clunky mess - played 4-5 matches and deleted it. Finals has a high skill level, but manages to still be fun because they made the objectives central so even if you're not the best killer, you can still win by playing smart. surprised it doesn't have its own thread it's by far one of the best shooters going right now

                      Re: XDefiant (PS5, XSX, PC)

I tried The Finals and didn't like it. A lot of the F2P shooters now style their games as if you're part of a game show and I didn't care for that. I know there's some former DICE devs working on that game so it was on my radard but I didn't like the gun mechanics.

As for XDefiant, I haven't played it much in recent weeks. The content is pretty stale but I don't think the game is clunky really. It's smooth but there's not a lot of variety from map to map and 50% of the game modes are not fun.

I appreciate their attempts to nerf the bunny hopping but it's not effectiv enough. If the weapon progression/unlock was better it might would have held me off a little longer but I will likely delete it from my console soon.

If DICE doesn't get their next Battlefield game right it might be over for me with FPS. I've enjoyed the Battlefield franchise a lot over the years but that 2042 game is awful. They have patched it and made a lot of changes but the game still doesn't work right to me. You can play an entire round and never feel like you contributed to the outcome of the game. That's not Battlefield to me.

If the next one is another hero shooter with oversized maps then I may not even try it.
