      Completed Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
      • Visuals - 10/10 (superb)
      • Audio - 9.0/10 (excellent)
      • Gameplay/Combat - 9.0/10 (excellent)
      • Story/Characters - 10/10 (superb)
      • Overall - 9.5/10 (excellent)

Over 105 hours of total play time. Map completion was around 90%. Missed a few treasure chests and whatnot. Played as the Rogue class. Human. Grey Warden. Played in Performance Mode with a custom difficulty level.

Visually, the art style and art direction is superb. Loved all the different environments and regions. No issues or complaints with the visuals. Audio wise, the voice acting is great, sound effects are really good and the music is excellent.

Gameplay/combat wise, really enjoyed it all. From the combat itself to the platforming to the puzzle solving to the different setups that you can use for The Rook and for the different setups you can use with your companions. My biggest issue/complaint was the lock on system as it didn’t always stay locked on to the target I wanted or didn’t work the way I wanted it to. Movement felt clunky at times and the camera wouldn’t be in the spot you wanted especially during bigger fights. Also, while a pet peeve of mine, I found it funny that your can’t swim/float and would drown in deep water.

Story/character wise, I thought everything for the most part was excellent, liked all the characters and enjoyed it all for the most part. The Taash stuff feels very forced and due to that is cringey but it’s maybe 30 minutes if that and doesn’t affect/change anything or hurt/take away anything from the overall story and characters. I know those who didn’t like the story was because everyone gets along but to be honest, plot wise, that makes sense because if you’re fighting with each other, you don’t stand a chance at accomplishing what you need to accomplish.

The main quests were all excellent from the locations to the objectives to what the goals were. Side/region quests were mostly good. Companion quest lines were better. The rewards were mostly good. The gear setup was different in where you can get a duplicate of what you already have and it increases the quality of it to the next level which is cool because you don’t have to waste gold/resources upgrading it until later on in the game.

Overall, enjoyed the game from beginning to end. I really don’t understand what people were complaining about. In fairness, I will say that outside of a few hours of Origins which I don’t even remember, this is basically the first game in the series that I truly played and completed so maybe that has something to do with it. I don’t know. Either way, loved and enjoyed the game. No real major issues, negatives or complaints. Looks, plays and runs great on Xbox Series X.

As of now, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is my 2024 game of the year and I don’t see the other few games that I have left for the year beating it out.

        Well, I did it again...lmao

The game came up on the MS store on the X as a "for you" game, priced at $38.99, so I ended up using some MS rewards and picked it up for $26 and some change.
I'm still pretty early in the game, but to say I'm addicted would be an understatement...lol

There is just so much good with the game that finding any "nitpicks" is really difficult right now.

Between Veilguard, Indy and Stalker 2, I am set for a very long time, what sucks is trying to divide my playtime between all 3 as they all are (imo) great games.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

I am 80 plus hours in and am totally hooked(obviously). It is absolutely my favorite DA in the series now.

All the companion quests have a major Mass Effect 2 vibe. Traveling is outstanding. Want to take the long way home? You can. Want to fast travel? You have fast travel light or pin point fast traveling if you just want to get right to it.

Quests have been great. Character banter excellent. Combat is also a lot of fun and easy to pick up out of the gate. I also love the equipment upgrades and how intuitive it is.

          Just so much good.

Just starting the game now. A couple hours in and I think combat will be their best version ever. Ability wheel simpler. DAI required too much baby sitting.

I do think the game started out pretty easy. I bumped from normal to Hard/Underdog quickly. Probably gonna stay there. I am looking forward to some open areas and not a pure linear path.

              Best DA ever IMO.

About to finish it today. The party member quests are the best!!!

Just got this as a Christmas gift.

                Only a few hours in
                Spoiler

Playing as a warrior as melee is my traditional go to for the first time I run through something.

Definitely feels like this will give Origins a run for its money for the best game in the series.

                    Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard

I’m 10 hours in and I really miss the open world concept. This linear format and fast travel everywhere really disconnects you from the world. Everything is in an urban setting so far too which I’m not a fan of. I liked DAI more as I played it and maybe this will be the case here. But while Dragons Dogma 2 had a crap story the world, pawns and combat as you explored everything were fantastic. I never missed the fast travel. You could get in a wagon to help once I awhile but the exploration and combat while you roamed was great. I also preferred how good your pawns were in the party at fighting and you didn’t have full control over them or needed to. The pawn banter was hilarious too.

If you make a game this linear you might has well have mimicked God of War. The game has main and side quests so why not go open world? In DAI some areas were too difficult to explore which allowed the game to push you to certain places. They could have done the same here. I am a warrior and I enjoy it but I wonder if I should have gone rogue. I do like how I can be a one or two handed warrior at the same time.

So far this is an average game imo. Dogma 2 was definitely better for my play style. More action, less story and RPG/NPC elements and a good open world.

I loved Dogma 2 as well. Definitely a lot more on the Adventure and exploration side. And Pawns were amazing as well as monsters.

DAV is really all about the storytelling. I was a Mage and loved it. But yes a linear RPG. But as far as storytelling the best in the series since DAO.

RPGs for me is all about the story telling. And story telling is where this games shines. Learning about the characters and their back story, their people was interesting. Especially learning about the history of the elves. Dragon Dogma 2, even though classified as a RPG, is more of an adventure game to me. I really wish companies will go back to classifying games as adventure games when the mechanics of said game screams adventure.

I remember as a kid any game where there was a whole lot of exploring and not much story telling was called adventure games.

I’m surprised they dumbed down crafting this much in Veilguard. Part of me was annoyed with how much mining for resources I did in DAI or even buying crafting resources in certain maps to help. Veilguard went the other way big time. I never have to worry about upgrades or materials. Why can’t I sell old equipment I don’t want for money (although that isn’t an issue either). I’m glad inventory space isn’t an issue but sometimes that can be more interesting too. A lot of design decisions were done to make the game more RPG like and simpler/easier which I can definitely appreciate. Just wonder if they went too far. I am doing tons of side stuff tho.

No, I think it goes with the general design philosophy of simplifying some things to make it more action-oriented in battle. The only deaths are story related.
