They keep saying xbox next will have all games in 16:9 hd . Does that mean i have to buy an hd tv to play xbox next ?

You will be able to play on standard TV's. The console has a resize buffer, that will convert 16:9 to 4:3. Microsoft isn't stupid, that would be killing there chances next-gen, considering most haven't made the switch yet.
However, if you want to take full advantage of next-gen gaming for any of the consoles. An HDTV is reccomended.Go Noles!!! >>-----> -
