    Cleaning your PS2

I believe my ps2 needs cleaning. How do I open it up, to clean it. Where are the screws located. I can't seem to find them. Also is this a smart thing to do.

I started getting those too after about 1 1/2yrs of owning one so I took it upon myself to clean the lense instead of sending it to Sony and it really isn't hard to do at all. Now I just open it up and clean it every 6 months or so when I notice it's not booting up as quickly. Here's the best guide I know of on the net. It has pictures to go along with it. Also, before you start, make sure you have one of those really tiny Philips head screwdrivers... the kind you would use on watches maybe. In other words small. Anyways, normally I would say good luck but you won't need it. It really is easy to do.

No problem. I'm assuming you're getting disc read errors. That was my problem. All I had to do was clean the lense with alcohol and a q-tip, and all my games ran smoothly again. The guide goes into things like adjusting the lense as well, but I wouldn't mess with that. Just clean the lense, run some games and see if your problems go away. 99% of the time it's just the lense needs cleaning.

Thanks for sharing that last sentence in your last quote, because you were right thats all I had to do was clean the lense. I thought I would have to buy another console. Man, you saved me some money with this one. I do appreciate it. YOU ARE THE MAN.
