When I first thought it was just going to be a tiny ps2, I didn't see myself getting it, but hearing what it can do (and will be able to do) really got me very interested.

A little birdie told me the 2nd shipment was going to hit today, so we'll see after work if I can pick one up (I HOPE!!!)
same here, probably wouldn't buy it if all it did was games.

How many MP3's do you think would fit on that 1 gig? I am in the market for a 1 gig as well, the 32mb isn't cutting it after throwing some pics and 2 mp3's on it!

I found this on another site

With my 1GIG SD card, I can store the following:
--over 3,000 pictures on the maximum resolution
        --over 30 hours of audio
        --over 1.5 hrs of video

Exactly, I can have everything in one neat device. Now to get a 1 gig card and Wipeout so I can surf the web from it and I'm in heaven.

                  tried eBay?

Also - you might consider two 512 cards instead of one 1G. I see 512's on ebay for around $60 ... which means you could get two for less than a 1G.

Haven't looked at Ebay, but by guessing normal Ebay tatics, if they are sold out everywhere, I'm sure they are going for the 175-200 range on there. I would do 2 512's, but that would mean I would then need 2 cards..but on the other hand, then I could give one to the wife every now and then for the camera...hmmm, since they do come with the adapter to use in camera's or my XBR. Hmmm, Fossen, you are on to something there!

is there software to split up videos out there? some stuff I see to download is pretty large, and that'd be the only reason to want a 1gig card as opposed to 2 512's...but if I could split up a 800mb movie into 2 400mb sections then it'd be all good. Just don't know if that's out there for free or not.

There is splitting software .... but remember that the movies will compress from AVI form.

A xvid avi at 272 MB compressed to 150 MB with high-ish quality settings through pspvideo9.

gotcha...I'll have to check out that program, more options than what came with my cable

Sounds like 512 is a better way to go, especially since the gig ones are impossible to find and really expensive.

I plan to get a 512, then see how prices settle after that.

exactly...just fun doing all the research and trying to figure out the best thing to do...plus I'd rather not wait for the gig cards, i bet they'll be hard to get even after they release next week or so (at least at gamestop)

I have Ocean's Eleven which is like a 1:40 minute movie, and I got it down to about 330 megs. So you can definitely fit a whole movie on a 512. The quality is good too.
