    XBOX NEXT..FAST PROCESSER, PS3...NEW TECHNOLOGY

Which one will be better? From what I've read..PS3 will have some sort of new "cell" technology developed jointly by IBM and Sony. They will also use discs that have "7 times the storage capacity of DVDs" which is absolutely HUGE.

Xbox says they will have a 3.5GHz processor which is damn fast, but is by no means cutting edge new technology.

Will the games produced for each system look and play generally the same? I have no brand loyalty. The best product gets my entertainment dollar...which is why I bought Xbox..it's better than PS2...But if Sony comes out with a superior product..then its back to Play Station and their tiny controllers.

It will all depend on what games you want to play, just like all the other systems. Ps3 will have the games i want to play. So I will get that in two years. I will never pay 300+ for a game system.

I want to know if the PS3 will have the blue-ray technology because for some people, they might be willing to buy it just as a DVD HD player. 20% of the first PS2s sold in Japan were bought mainly for DVD purposes because it was the same price.

First i would like to welcome you to the boards, second i would like to straighten this out a bit. Klue is right as this might not be to correct forum. But i would like to correct your info.

The new XBOX will have THREE 3.0 GHZ processors . not 1. Besides Cell technology doesnt mean better graphics or anything like that. It is a single processor that works as a multifunctional processor..( i believe thats how it works) This really doesnt have anything to do with which games are better. That said i would say games would generally be very similar on both systems. I think that it will come down to exclusives on both systems...IE: Halo , Gran Turismo ...ect.

Yes that means Madden as well. I think EA will easily be able to port from one system to another.

          hope this helps.

Re: XBOX NEXT..FAST PROCESSER, PS3...NEW TECHNOLOGY

Nothing confirmed, going off rumors, speculation, and leaked documents.

            As far as CPU's goes

Xbox (whatever) will have a tri-core processor based off the architecture of the Apple G5. Each core will run at 3-3.5 GHz. This is not to be confused with 3 seperate processors. This is the next step for PC's, multi-core processors. Microsoft could also have something else cooking up, but people probably wouldn't understand what i'm talking about.

PS3 will have CELL, it's still unconfirmed exactly what CELL is going into the PS3, if it's the one recently unveiled, then it will be more powerful than the Xbox (whatever) CPU. I'm Hearing that Sony and IBM are having heat problems with the current 8 SPE CELL, and this from GameInformer...

"PS3 hardware isn't working right could not be shown at e3"

I'm thinking the PS3 will get an 4-6 SPE CELL, instead of the CELL that was recently unveiled, but we'll see.

In my opinion the PS3 will have the faster CPU, but if the Xbox (whatever) is more effecient at doing it's task, then that extra horsepower won't matter.

            As for the GPU

This is hard to even compare since nothing has been said about the PS3 GPU, but IGN said from what they hear the Xbox (whatever) GPU is a little more powerful, so that's the only thing we've got to go on. Also Sony plans on using CELL for some of the vertex and pixel shading, so it remains to be seen exactly how this factors in.

            RAM

Sounds like Microsoft has upped the RAM to 512MB, there's just to many sources saying they have. Last I read the PS3 will have 512 megabit, which is 256MB of RAM. CELL is limited to only being able to access 256MB of RAM, of course nothing is stopping Sony from having seperate memory banks, but they're using XDR (RAMBUS), which isn't cheap, so I wouldn't be suprised, if Microsoft had more RAM than the PS3. Big advantage for Microsoft.

If, I had to guess, which would be more powerful. I would say the PS3 will have a little more under the hood, but nothing like the Xbox had over the PS2, not even close. That doesn't make it the better console, it's still all about games, it always has been. Microsoft looks to be providing some superb software, to help developers keep costs down, and help them take advantage of the hardware. I still think all the next-gen consoles will be very similar graphics wise, with it being even less noticeable, than this gen.

I'm stopping there. I could go on. I just don't feel like it. We need to wait, until E3 to get some concrete specs on the next-gen systems, maybe the Revolution will be more powerful, than the PS3 and Xbox (whatever)
