With the Gamestop/EB merger, try Blockbuster

I know it sounds crazy, but I have made the switch from the gaming "specialty" stores to buying my games at Blockbuster video.

Right now, if you trade in any 2 games, they will sell you a 49.99 game
for 29.99. PLUS they will subtract the worth of the trade in credit from
    the 29.99.

So say you want Jade Empire, which is 49.99

Then you bring in 2 games that have a total trade in value of 40 bucks.

Trade the two games in and get Jade Empire for 29.99 minus 40 trade in credit, leaving you with a balance of NEGATIVE 10 bucks.

Another thing to consider besides the price is that IMO, the BB people are always friendlier than the Gamestop or EB people. This has translated into them letting me use their employee discount when buying games.

Lastly, they have better deals on their used games. Like "buy 2 get 1 free" or "buy 1 get the second game at half price." the only draw back is that all sales are final for used games, but that's the way it is at EB anyway.

I agree, it's true that Blockbuster is a much better deal than either Gamestop or EB. Good post!

      Questions:

      1. Do they accept old sports games as part of the deal?
      2. Are all blockbusters selling and trading games now, or just certain ones?

          1. Not sure?
          2. You would know if your Blockbuster does this. They renovated the stores and have a large section called "Gamerush" and even a separate check out counter for games. It's pretty much a mini-EB inside of a Blockbuster. They always have great deals on trade ins and used games. Right now i think it's buy one used get 1 50% off, sometimes they do buy 2 get 1 free.

Thanks for the heads up on this new deal, I will defintely have to take advantage of that.

My only problem with BB's gamerush section is that soem games dont come with manuals and can be in poor shape.

For renting, BB isn't that great, but for buying/ trading they are pretty good.
Having one 5 minutes away on foot, is another reason why they've been getting all my purchase business of late.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Yeah, their trade in values are often 2-5 bucks better than Gamestop and eb games.

Someone asked earlier about the sports games and they DO take most sports games, unless it's like over 3 years old.

Gamestop is the only place in SO CAL that I know of that lets you buy a game, and then return it for a full refund. But only on used games (and you have 7 days). If I KNOW its a used game I want, I will buy from BB, since they always have the best deals on used game.

Another thing about BB is this...sometimes they will have a game for sale lower than it should be. For instance, a used FN Round 2 is only 39.99 used at Gamerush. Since their main thing is movies, I guess you can expect to see these type of mistakes from time to time.

It doesn't really "end." They had buy 2 used and get one free for over 6 months. Buy one get one for half just started about 2 weeks ago and will probably go on at least through the summer.

The thing with the "buy a new 49.99 game for 29.99" used to be buy it for 34.99...so who knows, maybe it will go even lower.

Also, if you trade in 3 games, you get and additional 5 bucks credit per game.

I'm telling you, if you have the luxury, choose a Gamerush with young or freindly people...I have 2 stores (both w/in 5 minutes) where the people will offer me thier discount when I buy (additional 20 percent off). And I'm in LA...not exactly the freindliest city.
