My main issue about the show was, besides the fascination of how widespread is this addiction, do you guys think that it is fair to treat this addiction as any other meaning that he has to give up videogames entirely or risk going back to his addictive behavior? Is it fair to ask this of anyone as the entire videogame phenomena has become as basic as watching tv or going to the movies etc etc.
Now I can understand maybe cocaine addicts being focused on never doing "just a little cocaine" because of the nature of it but don't you guys think this is a socially acceptable and non-harmative behaviour if done in a reasonable nature, like many of us here do? I mean to tell someone that they need to change is one thing, cutting down the videogaming to like an hour or so or whatever is reasonable, but to say a person has to eliminate the hobby entirely is just a bit much.
I guess maybe because this is an addiction I can really relate to, although my hobby consists of about 10 hours a week, hardly harmful, that I see it differently but I don't really agree that this particular addiction would need to be treated the same way that say a heroin addiction or food disorder would need to be treated.
What do you guys think? What would you do if your family had an intervention with you and demanded you get help, go into rehab for 42 days and never play videogames again and if you didn't they would completely disown you? Cut you off completely in every way if you didn't agree because they felt you were ruining your life with Halo 2 marathon sessions or whatnot. Thoughts?
